Am I getting that right? Basically useless stash space horder?
You put them in gear, get stats.
And they barely had a use in D3 either. Only augments I think?
If you play the game they do.
look, i’m giving this game the benefit of the doubt where i see it… but at lvl 47, gems aren’t useful.
skulls in rings are but +3% life for an armor drop so I can have half my stash full of gems isn’t helping. neither is +7.5 Crit damage, when I crit.
Each to their own i guess.
+20% life is a pretty sizable boost.
That’s a ‘you’ problem dude. Toss all but the highest grade you have. They drop like candy. There, now it’s down to 7 slots in your stash.
If you’d like to go further, look at the gems, decide which kinds you’re going to use (2 kinds in seasonal, 3 in eternal), and toss the others. Or just toss all of the ones that you don’t have slots in your gear for. It’s cheap to remove them from gear and put them in new gear.
… they get up to 20%? - … just drop them. will do.
Ty.
I like collecting them. But pretty much useless after you have what you need. Wouldn’t it be interesting if socketed gems busted during or after battle? I can imagine them popping out of real gear. Could be an interesting use for them.
You only need enough Royals to socket in all of your available gear sockets. Considering you can freely unsocket and re-socket them and they do not sell for anything really or salvage, yes, gems are worthless after a certain point. They serve no purpose but to take up space. Not quite sure why they do not vendor for increasing amounts of Gold and why you cannot Salvage them for components at the very least.
Gems will be used by the jeweler to get certain stats/recipe etc in the future.
Any self respecting game dev will create a sink for most items found.
If they don’t…
Add a function where you can combine Royal Gems when Enchanting to reduce some RNG when Enchanting. Different Gems have different Affixes from rolling. While you cannot guarantee the final outcome, at least you can target a set of affixes.
For example, maybe Amethyst provides Strength among other potential Affixes for Weapons and Armor while Diamond might be All Stats etc. The potential result pool would display when you put the Gem in the slot. Enchanting without a Gem gives you pure RNG and any Affix can roll.
Like most of the itemization in D4, gems are pretty underwhelming.
Gem bag. - The kids need a gem bag to store all their marbles in. The gems might as well be marbles.
A second window pane for their gem bag. shrugs
I used to hoard my gems in D3 because if you ran out of gold, they could net you a ton in a pinch. Now, the top tier gem available sells for 12 gold I believe. They should have put them in the ingredients stash from the get go then.
Same with our potions. They should be in its own tab.
The storage system in this arpg is absolutely trash considering we are no longer in the stone ages. I am so tired of playing inventory management.
This is changing in Season 2 they wont be in your stash or inventory but your materials page.
Gems have a purpose, but some are just flat out 100% better options than others.
Depending on class and build. But I’ve used every gem in the game on different characters. All are useful.
you use them in weapons and armor, with seasons, you don’t use them in rings.
Some have more value than others, but they have value. I’m sure in an expansion or future season, there will be more use (mass turn-in for something)
But they give armor in jewelery. ![]()
Gems will likely no longer take up inventory space in 5 weeks from now so it’ll be a moot point pretty soon.
