So Eternal Realm is pointless

I think most people are complaining about always online because of how bad the servers are

They said balance will be the same too. They were a little bit more vague about pinnacle challenges but it doesn’t make sense not to roll those into eternal (though maybe they will wait until the seasonal characters get first crack?). Hopefully we get clarity on that tomorrow. They even said some of the seasonal mechanics might get modified and put into eternal.

Yea I’m looking forward to the Livestream tomorrow, hopefully we all get some good news

There were people who played online in d2 and didn’t play ladder. Quite a decent number, in fact.

At the end of each season the seasonal characters end up on the eternal realm, correct? So, the Eternal realm will continue to grow in population as more season’s finish. A lot of people will end up skipping some seasons to continue to level their characters on the eternal realm. Some people will play every single season. In the near future everyone will be playing seasons, and the eternal realm will be less populated. But it seems like the eternal realm will eventually be the main hub since everyone ends up there.

I for one will be playing seasons and then periodically skip them when I can’t keep up or because I really enjoy a certain character/build that I want to continue to level up.

Unless I’m missing something or something I stated is actually false, I don’t see the issue.

This is not a aRPG, but a aRPG-MMO

Confines and gatekeeping “genre rules” is not good for gaming. Blizzard made WoW the single most successful MMO because of one MAIN thing: it was more accessible to the average gaming consumer. Traditional MMO players at the time LOVED complexity and calculations, non-guided open world exploration, etc. and I remember they HATED how “dumb-down” WoW was with much more linear quest guides and world direction.

The idea of spending 100+ hours on a RPG progression based character to then throw it away every 3 months is NOT an accessible idea to many.

I 100% understand those that like the competitive nature of leveling, and hence forced resets is the only way, and I’m not saying to take that away, but instead, I’m saying Blizzard should figure out another way to ALSO make other players want to stay on eternal realm (new quests, mechanics and some cosmetic awards to be rolled out to eternal at the same time, better end game activities like difficult Clan raids, Clan stronghold rewards, fun PvP games like capture the flag, etc.)

I don’t think he knows what gacha is.

That’s an extremely bad take and also a very ignorant one too.

I almost want to call bait, but you never know with people these days.

I’m level 79 (I think), and I just can’t get up the effort to login and play. It’s tough, so I hope season 1 is really something special.

I don’t think it’ll be amazingly special but I think it will breath some life into the game for some players for sure. Best players can do is be cautiously hopeful.

Not true.
If anything seasonal characters don’t have any value.
You create them for seasons then never play them again. They are throw-aways and feel worthless, just like in D3.

There’s literally nothing about D4 that is MMO.

There are just some RPG elements that you don’t like, but that doesn’t make them MMO.

The only difference in D3… technically the paragon points there kept dumping to the non-seasonal characters. Not saying that was perfect but with D4 it doesn’t work quite the same

The point of games is to have fun.
If you want to make a “worthwhile investment of time” outside of having fun, maybe go do something worthwhile with your life.
No matter of endgame progression or character progression is worthwhile outside of having fun and being entertained.
If none of this is entertaining or fun to you, then maybe you need to re-evaluate why you play games and your outlook on life.

Just because YOU want to define what an ARPG-MMO is, and what it should be by YOUR definition, doesn’t the game itself or any other player has to abide by YOUR definition.
It’s pretty clear what seasonal and eternal characters are and how seasons will work. If you’re unable to accept that, then that’s your own personal issue.
If you don’t like it… oh well…

Eternal realms are for people who do not wish to make new characters for the season, and a place for season characters to go when the season ends.

That is definitely not pointless.

Opinions and feedback is how games evolve. Just look at how much D2 and D3 evolved over the years. You and many others like seasons, cool, I and many others don’t, cool.

The difference is, I’m not trying to take away what you like. As I said, continue seasons for you and others, but give others that want REASONS to continue on eternal do that as well. win - win.

Is there even a reason for wt4?

Like WT3 at least has helltides that be a mess to implement in wt2 because you don’t want campaign players randomly wandering into it.

WT4 could practically be merged into WT3 by having the Elias dungeon act as a stronghold that unlocks uber lilth dungeon and uncap world scaling, buffing the exp drop of Level 74+ mobs, and reusing the code that limits shako to level 85+ mobs to limit ancestrals to Level 74+ mobs

Might even help player density issues if they merged WT3 and WT4

Yeah pretty much unless you want to also play on eternal for whatever reason, but seasonal is usually always a superior experience.

Hello?

No need to increase power level.

You can add new items to grind for, enabling new builds.
You can add new glyphs to socket in the paragon board. You can add item sets, rune words etc
You can simply add cosmetics
You can add new story chapters
You can add new dungeons with new mechanics that bring new and improved gameplay but not higher level
You can add higher world tiers, higher nightmare dungeon tiers for the super endgame min maxers.
You can add or expand on mounts
You can add skills or passives and expand the skill tree

There are endless possibilities you can add to the game that require players to play content and unlock things without directly adding power increases. Games have been doing this since forever.
