Skill cooldowns in an Action RPG?

This is what we call a strawman.

I fixed your sentence for you.

They’re incapable of developing an ARPG, so they use mechanics from Warcraft to fill in for their lack of creative vision. If you pay close attention to the entire game, you will see Warcraft everywhere. D4 is nothing more than another version of WoW, and it’s shameful.

Yes, the reason behind this is it was made by Freshman year Developers.

It is satisfying to use the right skill at the right time for maximum effect.

yeah it is almost as if they used the entirety of their creativity on wow and then just revamp/adopt/translate that to other games vs. innovate or create anything new.

Because people cried about teleport not having a cooldown in D2. So here we are with cooldowns.

what creativity? wow it was good from vanila to WoTLK. died in cataclysm and pandaria and has since been a dead game, irrelevant even to non-fanboys

That’s true but original wow through WOTLK (and maybe a sprinkling of system later) were pretty creative though. WOW changed the landscape for MMO"s (there is no denying that) but all of their creative might (yes even what little is left) goes there first and the bottom of the grill after a 4th of July cookout droppings, go to other games.

but isn’t that the problem here? Isn’t that exactly what they’re doing? coming out of the game. a game that barely launched and is already dying.
and let us know in the beta

Whirlwind needs a cooldown.

yes, I agreed with you on the other comment already so not sure why we are going back and forth.

I can tell you why. Its because of the half baked philosophy behind this game. A bastard mmo arpg hybrid. Doing neither properly. 60 sec cd are standard in mmos and mobas, it’s a game changing tool which serve as your ace in the hole. In an arpg, where encounters last only for a short bit of time, it makes no sense. This game is riddled with mmo features. Mentionning this gets me the hatred of so many it’s incredible. Mount, cash shop, live service, scaling à la wow, open world multiplayer 24/7, skins, rep farm, gathering etc. It’s why some design decisions feels off to me. It’s filled with features which just don’t make sense.

PERFECT. i couldn’t say it better, only what bothers me is that they did this in diablo 3, mainly in crusader, and it was such a failure that they had to correct it with the class sets that basically either make the buffs permanent or reset their CD . We warned that this was going to be an issue during the beta but unfortunately the devs don’t listen to the community and the WORST the white knights don’t take constructive critic.

No. No skill should have a cooldown. They should be about resource management.

To be fair, they didn’t even get that aspect of the game right, either.

Skills in general in D4 are very poorly done.

They either have an overly long CD or an exorbitant resource cost. It’s really a lousy system.

today i learned there’s no such thing as mana/resource pools

Very true. Not a fan of their resource play at all. It is similar to D3, but worse, and I wasn’t a fan of the changes then.

CD skills just add another layer.

ARPG gamers really can’t handle much, can they…
