The players have spoken, get rid of seasons.
World renowned video game journalist Paul Tassi of forbes, has been leading the charge on twitter, denouncing seasonal resets in favor of permanent progression. Let’s be honest, resets are cumbersome like what Paul says, and he also suggests just adding new content we can do at max level.

Is it better or is it just what you’re used to? PoE does ladder resets and its super successful, if you want to play an MMO go play an MMO. I will certainly not stick around if they MMOify the game even more and such a core part like ladder resets would be a big no no for me.

PoE ladder resets have multiple other things going for it compared to D4.
PoE resets let the 1%ers compete for the first clears and it provides a fresh economy for the people who just enjoy grinding money to fund fancy characters.
What does D4’s resets do? 1%ers get the race for first 100 again and thats it. The battle pass is thrown in there to try and get the rest of the playerbase to play the season.
Also the fact that PoE’s leveling process (which TBH Iv always hated as well) is much less painful then D4’s.

I prefer not. I did not purchase an MMO

Who tf is Paul and why should I care what he says?
Seasons are working perfectly fine, and have done for years. Also - “modern MMO progression”? You realize this power creep system has existed just as long as seasons have right? They’re both 20 year old mechanics. There’s nothing modern about either of them

The only reason PoE is successful is because there hasn’t been any competition in years. This was supposed to be the thing that unseated it. At this point, this game might fall behind D3 in popularity very soon.

it is not that the players dislike seasons. It is that 150 hours to get to Level 100 is seeming a lowball number for some people. So, they cannot imagine spending 4, 5 or more hours everyday. As such, they are thinking about opting out of seasons.
Also, many people are perfectly fine with an update or three - in between expansions - that gives us more side story as opposed to having to do seasons in order to get more information on Lorath, Neyrelle, Elias or whomever.

And where exactly is your proof that the specific mechanic of seasons has any relevance to whether D4 will unseat PoE or not?
Diablo Immortal also didn’t unseat PoE, yet that game doesn’t have resets for seasons. Clearly, seasonal resets are not the only factor

We paid for an ARPG but this was D3’s vision back then an ARPG MMO, why do think we’re griding for rep (renown) from each city, doing side quests and such to keep us “busy”. But the rewards aren’t even that great for countless grind. It tries to incorporate an MMO feel by seeing people always on the screen but you’re never really on their server when they get transferred to another one. There really isnt an open chat or places to do actual trading.
As funny enough as it is, this feels like the failed concept for Torchlight 3 (Frontiers). Same always on with seeing other people in town, they even had bases you can build and people can visit but at the very end it was lacking.
They cant/wont get rid of seasons because they already heavily invested in it with the battle pass and such.

We don’t know what D4 resets do because we haven’t had one yet, i can agree that a lack of an economy reset is disappointing but solo self found exists in PoE and people keep playing reset after reset.
You can enjoy PoE leveling more that’s totally fine, im sure there’s people who enjoy D4 though.
This is the worst part of this whole thing. So many people were hoping that this game would be the one to give PoE a reason to be better. Nope looks like the bald man was right, nothing to be worried about with D4.
I like seasons. I like re-rolling.
I also like the progression in modern titles better than gating rewards and content behind forced resets. Really, just give us a season exp bar and each level is some unlock.
Resets can still exist with a separate realm, if you like that sort of thing. The perk could be a title, achievements, or faster season advancement rate by going in the fresh realm.
And just like that, everyone got what they wanted.

Go play a MMO, there’s nothing “modern” about it.

It’s not an MMO thing at all.
It’s just a better idea for more players.

Most of the players never post on forums. The only ones that have spoken are the ones who cannot understand the concept of seasons, that they have been around for years, and most people play them.

People who don’t speak… don’t speak. Good or bad. No news is not always good news. Sometimes no news means they uninstalled your game and cursed you to the Lord forever.
