Should Diablo go F2P?

Since Inmortal and the other game are on those formats (the other game later on) and they get 3x more content than payed expansions here, maybe they can go faster in development.

Or maybe not since we dont know wth is going on there,

Thoughts?

If this game becomes P2W like DI I would cease playing it.

I already paid for the game and expansion why should others receive it for free?

D4 is falling behind other games recycled season powers is not cutting it.

Blizzard spends time and money on seasons just to trash most of it in 3 months.

I paid for the game. It’s been free to play since then. If you’re spending money in the $$$ shop, that’s your issue.

The reason I stopped playing D::moneybag: was because I always had to wait on others to show up so I could finish things.

Wouldn’t make much sense to go F2P as they already have D:I for that. If anything they would just cancel any updates for D4 and put it into maintenance mode early. With the expansion coming out next year I don’t see this happening mind you, but you never know.

They have scrapped expansions before, along with entirely new IPs, so anything is possible at this point.

No way. This is a full-price game, and they sold it with the expansion. They can’t just say, “You paid for nothing, now pay more just to play and be competitive.”

I’d be asking for a refund in that case.

Yea, welcome to OW2. Lotta disappointed customers on that one.

It’s already a hybrid with the store selling cosmetics.

From Blizzard’s perspective I’m not sure they gain anything keeping everything the same and just giving the game/expansions away. Almost certainly they will get more players who then might buy cosmetics. But really if you aren’t willing to spend a few bucks on the game how many cosmetics are you going to buy?

To make matters worse, even if you do manage to make more money keeping everything the same you open the doors wide open for the gold farmers / bots. Ban them and then just create yet another free account. So I don’t see that model really working out.

The other option would be the traditional free to pay model where you will be “encouraged” to buy stuff because the make the game suck if you don’t have it. A model I personally hate and refuse to play. But companies have made a ton of money on. That might work out better for them but again you have the bot/seller/farmers/griefers issue that’s hard to fight when they can just grab a new free account.

This game was advertised as a full-price Diablo game. They can’t suddenly switch to a free-to-play model. I guess there might be some legal ground for a class action lawsuit here.
I really hope this doesn’t happen, but if it does, Diablo 4 would be the last game I bought from Blizzard.

LOL? Your statement is contradictory.

It’s not a “hybrid” due to cosmetics. Cosmetics don’t affect gameplay. Many games sell cosmetics - for example virtually every SEGA/Atlus game does (Persona, Yakuza, etc.). Bandai/Namco? Yup. Costumes everywhere. Square-Enix? More costumes. KOEI? LOL TONS OF COSTUMES. Ubi-Soft does it as well.

psssht. we like to pretend that only evil blizzard does that. So predatory!!!

I was looking into the Atelier Ryza games (which are years old), still full-cost ($69.99) with expensive costumes. Luckily you can get physical copies, but the entire push for digital means some games and some publishers will never have a sale.

Youll laugh. In monster hunter wilds you have to pay for passes if you want to change the appearance on your palico or character. (you can change certain things for free, but if you want the character creation changes, you gotta pay =P )

Sadly the EULA says otherwise, that’s why they got away with it when OW1 a fully priced game, turned into OW2 a F2P version of the same game with less features, and made it so you couldn’t even access the original game anymore. Funny how they’re bringing back loot boxes from OW1 and the 6v6 mode again.

I’d like to see a few more classes, more outside world content, instanced player housing to display weapons / trophy cosmetics / unused pets walking around, and a slight title rebranding.

“Diablo Online” that is free to play, but with the way how Fortnite works, e.g., pay for season pass and cosmetics… Nothing else. People who had already purchased the game should be given a bit of shop currency or something.

One thing I love is seeing players everywhere.

Maybe close the forums, too. While there are many great posters here, it’s just littered with toxic / social bacteria.

Yes, lots of games use this hybrid approach. Not sure what your point is or how what I said is contradictory.

The game has a box price and it has micro-transactions. That would make it a hybrid of the box price model and the micro-transaction model.

Yes. DIV should go Fun 2 Play. (( :see_no_evil: ))

Can you imagine the uproar if it went F2P after being paid for?

Because a F2P model uses gameplay required MTX to fund itself. Like D:I.

A “hybrid” approach would be a paid-for game that also uses MTX to propel gameplay. Cosmetics, by definition don’t propel gameplay. They are… cosmetic. Zero effect on gameplay.
