Block rating and/or block chance on Spiritborn weapons…

Kurast setting being a natural tie-in with Zakarum…

= Something involving Paladins in expac #2, which means holy knight class late 2025 or early 2026 if delayed. It came to me in a vision.

Also, the Displate leak was obv not artistic license, but rather in-house concept art… and “she” sure don’t look like a Spiritborn.

This is playful speculation, but it’s also consistent with devs this summer revealing that Spiritborn was (albeit a concept they’d been working on for a while) a kind of executive decision they took, as far as what order to release classes currently under development.

There were other hints, too.

If I take the Displate timing at face value, that executive decision probably happened between summer 2023 and… beginning of this year. Things got reshuffled. Holy knight class placed on a back burner to simmer & develop flavor. “The New Thing” fast-tracked to help forestall a sense of staleness (to which the game’s mounting problems were contributing). Gotta get the iconic, legacy D2-themed character “just right”, and so on.

Said it many times before, but it is a complete embarrassment for an A-RPG when every single class aren’t able to use shields. Seriously.

They’re semi-revamping class systems in VoH, so I wouldn’t put it past them to enable shields on existing classes at some point. They did so with several weapon types recently. The game is still Early Access, give it time.

It’s an embarrassment when one makes false statements. Necromancer is a class, and Necromancer can use Shields.

No, it’s not false. You’re both grammatically correct. Shadout’s variation is grammatically less awkward (since equippable shields exist in the game), so the meaning came across unambiguously & I think you’re reaching.

If “Every single class is able to use shields” is false, Shadout’s statement is true. He could’ve worded it more precisely, is all. English is a stupid mutt of a language.

Necro could use shields, maybe in hardcore, but in softcore why bother? It’s a DPS loss.

One of the expansion’s mercenaries will have a shield… he can even throw it so that it bounces between enemies…

:v

I know one thing. The Necromancer isn’t all the classes in Diablo 4.

Probably yeah. English isn’t my first language.

I think I have played that character before!

i hear dual wielding shield barbs is coming to make bash 2.0 sss+ tier

Shhh… don’t tell anyone but Crusaders use shields.
You need to know the super secret, special code to unlock them.
It’s Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start.
To everyone you’ll just look like a necro using a shield but you and I will know we are really Crusaders.
Don’t tell anyone!

They’re ok-ish, imo. I use one on my necro when I feel squishy. Unlike off-hands, they can roll defensive specific stats like % damage reduction to everything. I used one this season that had a GA on damage reduction with flat health and crit chance. Masterwork 12/12 and it provides good defense. Helps that I have a Doombringer too.

The main issue with shields is that they do not offer enough protection to justify using over a two-hander or an off hand when you can get enough defense from other items, aspects, abilities, etc. The block chance is a good example of this. 20% block chance is just too low. Shields should be able to have increased % block as a roll, as an implicit over thorns, on defense armor like chest and helmet, and paragon boards nodes and glyphs. The room is there to improve. Just hope they see it.
