Multiple times I attempted this event and the animals would not respond. I killed all enemies in the area, visited the destination tree, and attempted different emotes. Finally on one attempt I ported to town, when I returned mobs dropped when entering the zone around a animal and after defeating them I was able to rescue. Upon rescuing, even though the counted showed to save 3, I had to save 4 to complete.
