Shadow Step doesn’t hit

If a target is moving, shadow step will not land a hit.

Something is going on to where you will teleport to the target and attack the air where the target was prior to the teleport.

After testing with a friend, even base movement speed AND applying a slow does not work. If the target is not stationary, you will not connect.

It’s extremely frustrating in pve and especially PVP. Where I can understand not hitting a dodge roll but missing a player in normal stride is insane.

is this happening in both pve and pvp?

Yes, if its moving when you cast the spell, it wont land. It will instead strike the air the target used to be in.

What i hate , is the aspect that makes you drop nades when you evade or shadowstep, drops the nades where you cast shadowstep, not where you stepped to …

Can we PLEASE get some more Traction on this?!?!? I way the game has been out as long as it has already and the PRIMARY mobility and lockdown CC skill for rogue DOESNT WORK? HELLOOOOOO!
Beyond frustrating trying to engage mobile targets and the shadow step just hits the air. And even worse, if you follow it up with a twisting blades, that also misses and expends your imbuement charge with ZERO damage?! @blizzard PLEASE fix this. Along with the ATROCIOUS lag from the PC side making the game basically unplayable.

Huh thought it was just my imagination and the fact that i spend more time watching my energy globe than what/where im actualy fighting/at on the screen. But I swore shadow step hit rate was like 50/50.

I have been using shadow step to get in on a elite pack, drop DT to reset cooldowns and then do a second Shadow step on the same target. And thats where i noticed the first SS would miss more often than hit.

As far as the CC breaking aspect of SS, that works just fine for me. Got the boots with the extra SS charge last week and have been using SS as CC breaker more than dive in and drop DT. I just evade as the boots also finally came with 3 evade charges max and +3 shadow step. Still no temerity or frost gloves, but i did also recently get gloves with +3 TB, +3 Flurry, +3 Rapid fire.

On the subject also of Shadow Step… Am I doing it wrong with making out the skill points??

I have been looking at builds thinkin of moving on from my bastard hybrid trap/TB/Flurry build to Rapid/flurry possibly. Debating going back to dash and spec into the ability that makes it stun/knockdown enemies over SS. But I have noticed on most builds traps especially are single point and maybe the 2 perk points or just one. I have done the same with my Caltrops and switched to cold damaging perk.

Works for me. Super useful when you get two charges for it.

It’s a consequence of Shadow Step’s inherently bad design. You magically appear in the back of a mob, in a completely different orientation, and then stab them in an attack that barely registers due to the lack of a good sound effect and animation. I get zero joy from casting it.

What Shadow Step should have been is a much faster version of Dash where the player locks onto a mob and slashes it from the front before immediately slashing it in the back.

I have seen it so some really janky stuff before. I’ve attacked a cell door behind an elite with it, I’ve shadow stepped backwards to an enemy in the opposite corner of the fight before too. I’ve even shadow stepped a room away through a wall with an elite that teleported at the exact some moment. Sometimes the janky moments do work in your favour.

Overall I’ve stopped using it to engage in most fights and generally use it to get out of trouble. I use dash to get in most of the time unless I know it’s a 1v1 against a frozen elite because I want to get the drop on those fools.

Interestingly enough I have even seen my dash freeze something with my penitent greaves, not sure if that’s intentional or not.

For those that are experiencing Shadow Step not targeting properly vs a moving target, I’m just curious if you’re on console / using a controller? I haven’t noticed this myself but only just recently started playing as Rogue and still getting the hang of it, and often forget to use Shadow Step. I’m on pc though with M & KB

But I have a very vague memory of someone talking about something similar and I think it was focused around the auto-targeting system being the cause.

All the movement skills on console have varying issues. You learn to deal with it. With a controller you sacrifice precision with targeting for a bit more fine control over movement in general. I like being able to sidestep the telegraphed attacks without any disruption to rotation.

Picking a single target out of a pile of 20 monsters on the other hand does not go well at all. That along with this games obsession with surrounding elites with reduced damage and increased health minions can make actually dealing damage to the most threatening target a challenge. Working through a dozen meat shields while dodging frost walls and poison puddles is pure hell. When you throw in spiders with their webs or those snake eyes that freeze on a screen that’s full of words you basically have no idea what is going on and have to trust your rotation to get the job done.

Thankfully dash seems to work for the most part, but a skill like concealment could possibly be better to reset position of the fight and get a better position to actually hit the target you want. With a controller in your hands you have to play different.

I’ve experienced this issue multiple times (my last level 77 HC death can be attributed to this which is extremely frustrating). In the last patch notes there was the following:

“Fixed an issue where the player character would freeze when using the Rogue’s Shadow Step skill if used outside the range of your intended target.”

I can confirm that this is not fixed on PS5. It still happens consistently and seems to even happen with close mobs.

In both circumstances, I would execute Shadow Step and the screen would freeze for up to 3 seconds. When it would unfreeze, I would instantly be dead in the middle of the pack. I was close to level 100 HC yesterday when this happened and got killed by a super weak mob. I’m 100% taking a break from this game until I know this is resolved

Sad part is not enough people are saying anything that the aim assist is garbage on controller. I wish a mouse and keyboard game would allow mouse and keyboard on consoles. It’s sad that this game was lazy made and other games can have mouse and keyboard on consoles. This game has a lot to work on imo

So I too really wish that the game had the same features that are available when using a controller but for mouse & keyboard, i.e, WASD movement while being able to aim independently. The mechanics are obviously already built into the game but require the use of a controller.

Someone made a config using the reWASD software that allows movement on keyboard with WASD while still being able to move the mouse around independently. I’ve used it and can confirm that it works as he/she describes in their post/guide:

Chiming in to this, Shadow step is still having consistent missing issues, like bad bad, hope itts fixed for s6 granted there is now a cleaving hit worth of the dmg
