Sever vs Blight build

Which one is better? Someone played both?

I ran Sever for most of seasonal. It’s respectable for NM’s and world content. It gets a decent bump from the seasonal additions and would be weaker on Eternal (Barber Heart, Decrepit/Sacrilegeous/Revenge Hearts are solid options, Audacity is an underrated aspect for NM’s).

2h sword or Wand+Focus can work. 2h provides more burst damage. 1h+Focus affords utility oriented advantages (higher LH for better CDR via Decrepify, Crit Chance on Focus, etc.). Lidless could probably be slotted in and achieve good results. Even though you lose an aspect slot and it’s cramped there (offensive aspects in particular).

Late game I was leveraging Infinimist concepts with the Sever setup. Alternating between abusing Mist and CCing the screen + dunk Sever. I only pushed up to ~NM 75-80 at ~level 90. I have no doubt it could complete a NM 100. Even though it probably wouldn’t have the best clear time.

I tried Blight in place of Sever and did not like it. Sever provides a semi-decent burst damage option. Blight could conceivably work too though. It would just have heavier reliance on passive Shadowblight procs and trapping mobs in place to avoid wasting the Blight DoT component.

Technically you can run both Sever and Blight. The aspect setup and gameplay loop with two core skills can be a little weird though. The skill points are spread a little thin too.

You may even be able to incorporate minions with either setup but I don’t know if I would. It’d probably be better to push for a Mendeln setup at that point.

Thanks for the answer, appreciate it :slightly_smiling_face:

Cleared NM 100 on both. In min maxed gear, Sever actually clears faster but you need 20%+ essence cost reduction, 50%+ lucky hit, 2-3 pieces of CDR. My sever/infinimist build cuts through NM100 like they are NM50s. Use Iron Maiden instead of a essence generator (reap) and run aspect of the damned. If you have lidless wall use it, then have a focus( with aspect of grasping veins) to swap for bosses. Killed Uber Lilith with with a different weapon aspect setup and paragon board. Crits upward of 100m (not as good as bone spear or Mendelin builds for Lilith but way better than your standard max roll infinimist setups)

I’m interested in your sever setup if you wouldn’t mind sharing. And wouldn’t swapping to a 2h sword with grasping veins be better to swap to for bosses than a focus if you have grasping veins on your wand?

I dont have trust level 3 on these forums to post outside link builds (rarely post) but add me on discord giraffebait#5086 and i can give you links to nm100 and lillith sever builds.

As for 2H vs 1H+offhand: a 2H can provide more burst damage but you lose a LOT of lucky hit/CDR. On bosses your ideal rotation is to sever 2x to dump a little essence, blood mist to create corpses then manually pop a tendrils then corpse exploding all remaining to build shadowblight stacks to proc 6 seconds of the blighted aspect for your big damage dump. The issue with a 2H is if you dont kill the boss in that 6 second window (which can happen on NM100) then you are sitting around waiting for your next bonestorm and slowly building blight stacks again. With a 1h+focus(BiS stats: CritC/LHC/LHCBarrier/CDR) you are creating more corpses and proccing more Abhorrent Decrepify CDR. A burst window with a 2H leaves me with about 25+ seconds on my bonestorm where as 1H+Focus usually leaves me with 5-10 seconds left. The constant uptime of bonestorm out DPS’s a 2h on any fight longer than 6 seconds. You can test it on lillith since her HP pool is massive. 2H just feels really bad on uptime, its the main reason why a lot of end bone spear builds use main + offhand
