Has anyone had success using Sever this season; if so what are your tips?
This season, no. Last season, sort of. I used a Mist spam/Sever hybrid last season and it held up okay. The basic premise being to bullrush mobs with Mist up, CT the final corpse drop and nuke with Sever. When non-boss mobs could move immunity was up, when immunity (mist) wasn’t active they couldn’t move and by the time CC wore off everything was dead.
As for tips, the best I can offer is to say… don’t. It’s not a very good skill. It’s like a poor mans Bonespear with less damage, less range, clunkier mechanics (the projectile likes to get blocked by objects) and the typical long wind-up of shadow builds. Anything you can do with Sever a different setup can do better.
One tip i can give you about the sever unique boots is that you need to be slightly away from monsters for it to produce the DoT you can test on training dummy. If you are on top of a boss and the projectile doesn’t travel a minimum distance it will not produce de DoT.
The version i run was with XFal’s and was just using the shadow DoTs from the boots, bonestorm and 1 value point into shadow CE with lucky hit stack to proc that ring and a nice Doombringer i got. The build worked ok. Also just sacrifice every minion. The minion versions are not good.
