Server Maintenance Times. Why at peak hours?

Why do you (blizzard) update the game during the busiest hours? 1:30PDT? That’s a joke right? Thats mid day, people are getting off work etc and ready to game. Why dont you guys do maintenance on at like 3am-6am when the majority of people are sleeping?

Fix your server issues, we paid good money to play this game. If you guys need to get more servers/hardware etc do it. Do whatever needs to be done and set up your weekly maintenance to where it shouldnt affect players or logging in.

The servers crashed, it wasn’t planned. Also, take into consideration that the game is played world wide so maintenance for one time zone is bad for many others. Your “busy time” is possibly the quietest time for the majority of players.

its 5:40pm Eastern. I think its prime time for anyone in the united states where the majority of their players are. They need to be doing maintenance based on server/player location. Obviously USA server maintenance at sleep time and asia servers at their sleep time.

Also, this is DIABLO 4… part 4. That means they had 3 times plus the knowledge of all their other games to understand the load and demand for their product. This isnt even a game to them, its a business. They need to handle that business appropriately. I sold all my activision stock because company is goin down. They cant even get creative enough to create a new game. They restarted WOW with vanilla and literally copied most of diablo immortal for mobile etc to make diablo 4.

Some of you have no idea how servers work and its really showing.

You have no idea how money works and it’s showing, if you charge an updated $70 price tag you make sure your garbage servers are working BEFORE hand. Or else you don’t steal peoples money.

I hate to burst your bubble but I doubt the USA even makes up a quarter of the total player base.

Where do you see this being noted as maintenance downtime?

Briskel, were you not breastfed? I mean what is your problem? Lets say you’re right… about everything. Biggest base of players is in Asia… now what? They should screw us over? You want to be RIGHT? Ok, you’re absolutely right about everyting. Now what? I Still cant log in and it says 67 min wait. You dont got a dad or something? He leave you when you were young? You got that CHIP bro.

Peak hours? Not for me, homie, I get to watch the forums which is much funnier and then I get to login after the forums calm down, it’s a win win.

That would be terrible, but if so, it’s okay. I don’t pay a subscription and I am not obligated to play D4, I will go on about my life and possibly boot up another game, too!

This is exactly what happened. But they should have just said that. Still in the past they did WEEKLY maintenance at normal play times. 11am-2pm etc

It is played world wide but NA has the highest number of customers. They should balance maintenence times around that.

JP companies with worldwide customers balance based on JP times. Why can’t we do the same in NA?

Edit: I also want to add Japanese companies balance based on japan time even if japan is the minority of their customer base!

(Will never read a reply) It’s most likely related to the cash shop. They would not close down the servers for anything other than improving profits right now during release week+weekend.

It could even be something niche like dulling the colors and textures of existing armors and increasing it on the cash shop ones. They clearly aren’t doing the server down for the player, because if they were they’d simply COMMUNICATE on twitter. Instead, they give you dead silence.

I don’t think servers are used anymore. More likely a set of k8s clusters on different locations, and that’s pretty much it.
Hope the gaming industry has moved towards micro services already.
Good ol’ monolithic apps, servers, VMs and IaaS are a thing of the past.

busy time is… prime time in the U.S on east/west coast? Where the company is based? Blizz has a habit of rolling out patches/updates during peak time because they insist on working bankers hours and letting any problems that occur after 5pm or on weekends wait until the next business day

Prime time is the time when the amount of logged-in players reaches its peak, which 9/10 is evening EU time.

That’s the time I can access now while others are sleeping… Blizzard should handle the queue issue. Diablo is a great game. Many people will play it.

I bet the servers were hacked and game data corrupted, and they can’t just fall back on the redundant servers because they don’t know when it happened and how many accounts/services were affected. They are likely trying to restore the servers, clear the hack and any effects it had on game data, while also maintaining legit progress for their players.
