Server Locations

Do we have any existing info on where the D4 servers are located?
D2 had an option to pick west or east.
D3 automatically assigned one or the other which was annoying.
Does D4 have servers on both coasts in the US, and will we have an option to prioritize west vs. east?

P.S. I live on the west coast any have very low ping when connected to my correct server, but east servers are 80+ and noticable.

serverpool: us-central | address: 34.134.81.253 | port: 54546
serverpool: us-west | address: 34.145.56.198 | port: 54545
serverpool: eu-west | address: 34.159.2.39 | port: 54546
serverpool: asia-northeast | address: 34.84.12.125 | port: 54546
serverpool: southamerica-east | address: 34.95.165.101 | port: 54546
serverpool: australia-southeast | address: 34.151.97.211 | port: 54545

thats what i found so far from the betas

quick response!
Doesn’t the PTR use separate servers compared to the live ones though?
D3 PTR only used east servers for some odd reason.
Were you able to connect to these while logged in to the betas?

PTR is different than server slam
server slam should be same as production (it even said so in the game screen production server) because they want to slam the servers before it go live so that they make sure it scale correctly
so basically the ones i shared are the authentication servers and license check points for D4 production (might be more than that but not less)

yup, makes sense. central sounds like the right idea!

thats the picture from the servers i just sent, you can see in the bottom part of the screen it says prod.actual.battle.net

also, you dont choose the server, it auto allocate you to the closest server to your IP

You could force your game to connect to a specific server within the Americas in D3. It was a command line argument that you put in the Bnet launcher. Otherwise, it put you on the closest one.

Blizzard does not have East Coast servers. They have West Coast and Central (Chicago).

No news yet on if we can force the game to connect to a specific gateway or not.

This was not the case in D3, it randomly picked between the two servers they had.
You had to create games and check ping to determine which server you would get.
I hope you are correct in D4, and they we auto-connect to our closest server, but given the past, I am not sure this will be the case until I see it.

This was not specific to which server in the US, just the region in general. There was no way in D3 to specify west coast servers, I wish there was.

No no no. That is not true at all. D3 has a lot of servers and you could indeed force it to connect to the one you wanted within your Region.

Edit - here is my copy paste for D3 teaching people how to force the game to use one specific server within the Americas. Old so images likely dead.

Hey folks, for the Americas region we have servers in Los Angeles, Chicago, Sydney, Singapore and São Paulo. us.battle.net is 24.105.29.40 eu.battle.net is 185.60.115.40

Selecting a Server in Diablo 3

Original Author: Narull

Updated with intro and SA information by: MissCheetah

By default the game will place you on the server closest to you geographically. Sometimes you may want to force the game to play on the server of your choice instead, either for matchmaking or performance. Narull provided great instructions and screen captures.

  1. Close Diablo III and open the launcher, click the little arrow up the top left and select ‘Settings’:

  1. In the new window select ‘Game Settings’:

  1. Tick the box for ‘Additional command line arguments’ and in the new command line put the following:

If you want to always connect to the US Server in Los Angeles: OnlineService.Matchmaking.ServerPool=Default

If you want to always connect to the ANZ Server: OnlineService.Matchmaking.ServerPool=AU1

If you want to always connect to the South America Server: OnlineService.Matchmaking.ServerPool=SA1

So it should look like this: Imgur: The magic of the Internet

Click ‘Done’ and run Diablo III, BAM done! It’s that simple.

See above! There is a way, and you can still do it right this second. I wish you had asked me long ago. I could have helped you with this.

you can see it in the debug file of the game
when the game is out if we can enable the debug i will try to share how to see it

Wait, so they don’t have any east coast servers? That’s lame.

Blizzard has not had any East Coast servers since around 2010.

I knew about changing regional servers since SC2 days
I was talking about within the D3 US reginal server, we were unable to specify west (Los Angeles) vs east (Chicago) servers.
I am hoping for D4, that we get better auto server optimization vs. a 50/50 chance.

Instead of me starting a new thread, are Blizzard going to announce the server locations at least before launch so people know their closest servers? :eyes:

And is there going to be a server launched for South African players?

South Africa won’t get dedicated servers, they never have. You will be pretty much placed on an EU-West server, as that will have a better overall ping for you.

But the server locations are… in data centers :o

COD has local servers now in South Africa, which is Activision, so here’s hoping right!?

You don’t say :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: Well, surely they are using cloud infrastructure, so either AWS, Azure or GCP, and unfortunately there is no DC (region) for GCP yet in South Africa, but there is for AWS & Azure.

PoE even has a local South African server, so how can Blizzard leave South Africa behind for D4 launch?

I guess it’s all down to supply/demand/cost.

I’m not sure of the infrastructure behind the data centres in South Africa.

Also, it’s down to player numbers as well.

Maybe in the future, but Blizzard haven’t had SA servers for any of their games, I believe.

I’m actually enquiring for mates as I no longer reside in South Africa; my latency on D3 is <35ms, and I know there will be a local server where I am for D4.

Indeed, quite sad that

I’m not on the forefront of Diablo’s player base in South Africa, but it cannot be that small, surely!? :man_shrugging: Their latency has always been around 160ms to 200ms connecting to EU; it’s not exactly hardcore viable.

Thanks for the Mention for us South African Players. We are really hoping for local servers this side.

And as mentioned above. Blizzard and Activision could surely come to some kind of solution hosting the D4 servers the same as COD. And I believe D4 will have a way bigger player base than PoE. (Might be wrong on this one)

160ms - 200ms is okay for normal play but gets you on Pushing and Hardcore.
