Seasonal Resets

After getting to level 65 and making it through the capstone dungeon to Tier 4, I’ve experienced most if not all of what’s in the game thus far. Main quests, side quests, dungeons, nightmare dungeons, hellfire events, world boss events, zone events, exploring areas, upgrading/enhancing items, etc. So I’ve been thinking about what comes next and about seasons, which are due in a few months.

Blizzard has previously said that each season, characters will have start at level 1 again. But what do seasons contain, other than new cosmetics, that would make a full reset feel worthwhile? What would justify the effort to starting over rather than having more end game content to experience (like how Bungie does Seasons with Destiny)? New players already have 80-100 hours of the main story/campaign to go through. What do veteran players get?

With another 35 levels to go, I’ve realized that it’s highly unlikely that I’ll do this level grind again because it has taken a lot of time and effort to get here. I would love to enjoy the fruits of that labor and experience more things in the Diablo world over the life of the game with that character.

But it looks like characters will just be dead ends in D4. Anyone else feeling this way?

We don’t know what all is coming in Seasons, to be perfectly honest. Hang out a while, the Devs are supposed to be doing a livestream in the next couple weeks (I think) to talk about what the Seasons will bring.

Also keep in mind, the Battlepass (Yes, the free one too) will contain XP boosts to make it less painful. Not many details right now as to how Seasons will work exactly.

I wouldn’t expect PoE style of seasons that’s for sure. I expect them to release qol features that should have been on release as season rewards to encourage people to play them though.

i think we level faster in season cuz of the xp boosts in the free track of the battle passes

Also, the Lilith Statue stat boosts carry over as well. +68 to each one. Having just rolled an alt, those stat boosts are amazing. You one shot everything right out of the gate even with the campaign skip.

If Seasons are done similarly to D3 your character is not reset. The characters we all are levelling right now continue in the Eternal Realm and we start a fresh character in the Seasonal Realm. Then that seasonal character also transfers to the Eternal Realm at the end of the season and they all live on afterwards.

And as Arcanthus already said, we don’t know what to expect quite yet for seasons so the experience may be different. We may be able to skip the campaign, for example, to focus on whatever is featured in the Battle Pass.

I’ll have to remember to tune into the dev stream. I do find the whole concept of “eternal” and “seasonal” realms unnecessarily complex and confusing. It seems like they borrowed the idea from PoE, but wouldn’t everyone prefer not having this kind of separation and to just enjoy the seasonal content with whatever characters they are playing?

So more like Destiny seasons, where you can participate with existing characters, less like PoE leagues, where you have entirely new characters.

Someone can correct me on this, but I believe it has something to do with ladders and seasonal achievements. Forcing everyone to start with a fresh character instead of using one already leveled up makes sure that everyone starts the season on equal footing.

A character with 200 hours under its belt will be able to knock out content miles ahead of a character with, say, 30 hours total game time.

But the Eternal Realm doesn’t have this issue because it’s not time limited, so those characters are unaffected.

This is part of it, yes. Ladders and achievements. Also, you don’t have to do Seasons. You can stay on eternal and not participate.

New players already have the main story campaign, which is 80+ hours of content or however long it takes them to complete. Will there really be no additional content for veteran players to enjoy with the characters they already created?

Everyone eventually gets to that point, regardless of the season in which they start playing.

I completely agree. Why can’t they add new content (maybe continue the main campaign and other new content, other new systems) to the eternal servers, so our main characters can enjoy them.

Just let the Eternal Realm run the season journey synchronously, and there is no need to be forced to create a character (level 1 and reset economy) setting (similar to Destiny 2, The Division 2, DI, etc.), or a better and novel mode !

Let the season mode continue to use their D3 old-fashioned way, and there is no need to change it. I even suggest that it may be more challenging to be more hard-core. After the season journey is over, the character will be frozen directly, and there is no need to put it into the eternal realm !
Just keep your ladder rankings, achievement stats and rewards, and carry over to future Season Modes(level 1 and reset economy)!

Be nice if it functioned like BDO seasons since the game is more akin to an mmo lite now then traditional arpg.
