Seasonal powers and theme in Eternal Realm. Why not?

Can i ask why in any ARPG (Not just diablo IV) that the seasonal theme, powers, and journey are always limited to a seasonal realm and not on an eternal realm for these games? is it just tradition -like thats how its always been so thats how it will always be? or is there an actual logistics or programming reason for this?
cause so far in Diablo IV, the eternal realm has not been eternal. every season my characters change and we have had to redo their gear almost completely, even before the changes with season 4 and on. even way back with season 1 and 2, we had to totally gear ourselves again to be effective when the new season started -and in some cases, even change builds entirely. so if eternal realms are not eternal anyways, then why not just have the seasonal theme and powers in the eternal realm also?

I wonder what it would be like to have the seasonal theme, powers, the season journey and the premium/free battlepasses all be accessible on eternal realm by eternal players. Have seasonal for those who want to start fresh with other players on a level playing field and maybe give those players extra cosmetic rewards for playing on the actual seasonal realm and starting over with a fresh character. reward those players who do play on a seasonal realm with extra stuff. -but also allow those who only play eternal realm to enjoy the seasonal mechanics as well.

would there be an even larger uptick in players returning to the game? i almost think there would be. i know from my guild of 50+ players that we would see 5-10 more players return each season if they could use thier eternal characters cause they dont want to start fresh every season. they want to check out the seasonal mechanics, theme, powers and stuff, but they really just dont want to level again so they dont come back or they only come back every 3-4 seasons. we have had some people who were there for season 1 that we didn’t see again until season 4 and then again in season 6 cause they felt like those were large enough changes to warrant playing again. they are not coming back for season 7, cause they want to play eternal. those players have said to me that they would be back for 7 and every single other season if they could play the seasonal stuff on eternal. so clearly, in my guild, we can see that more players would return if seasonal mechanics and theme were on both seasonal and eternal. and we cant be the only guild seeing this -plus what about players that are not in a guild…

it got me thinking why isn’t the season mechanics and stuff on eternal each season? what reason is there to limit the amount of returning players each season? cause thats really all i can see happening from the split. all it does is reduce the number of players who return to the game each season. it actually just reduces the number of player period cause once people have a character where they want it on eternal, they dont see a reason to play again unless there is an expansion. so i was wondering if there was a reason that i was just not seeing for why seasonal is not also on the eternal realm in these ARPG games? i really think that the first game to do seasonal mechanics on both season realms and eternal realms will be a massive hit and someone should do that. break the mold. be the one game that stands out and allows players to experience the game new and fresh every few months. more people will return and play.

just, as said above -just reward those who want to start fresh for the experience of starting on a level playing field, some cosmetics and other rewards that are unique to them. something that makes them stand out from the crowd for playing fresh every season.

thanx for any answers on this and also for the consideration on maybe bringing this to the game. i think it would make Diablo IV better for a lot of casual players.

In Diablo Immortal, you will have access to seasonal power without the need to reset your character. Different game has different seasonal mechanic.

I’m with you but I feel like this will get a lot of push back from the seasonal lovers for… reasons. Just look around: those guys are even asking the devs to delete the eternal realm because they have a preconceived notion about how an ARPG should be run – even though they’re not impacted by it.

Some people just can’t appreciate that not everyone likes the same things they like – in fact, I’d say that this is especially true with gaming, which seems to attract some of the most toxic, childish people around.

thanx. i didnt know that. so its interesting to see that it does have precedence in a Diablo game. wonder if that means it could one day come to Diablo IV. hmm.

A lesson we learned in Diablo III. We had double bounties for Non Season and Season. So, the Non Season players did nothing but BOUNTIES for three months so they would never have to do bounties ever again. And then, they had unlimited Reforging and other crafting advantages.

To me that’s not fun. For anybody.

wow. yeah. getting rid of eternal would be even worse. i bet those players would just never ever play again. thanx for the response. i asked all this cause some of the more casual players are really good, lifelong friends of mine and we want to play together but they just cant get themselves to level a new character every 3 months. i play both seasonal and eternal depending on which friends or guild-members are online at the time.

There would never be any reason to start a seasonal character if seasonal content was playable in eternal. If you choose to only play in eternal, you are actively and consciously making the decision to restrict yourself from the newest available content. That’s not a problem of the game or it’s developers. As far as the changes to gear and abilities, etc. It’s a living game that is going through growing pains. Eternal realm just means your character is playable there forever. It doesn’t mean that nothing will ever change.

I agree…

I would love to stick with a chatacter and keep playin around with creative builds etc… especially since i finally found a mythic after 6 seasons of grinding

I do love to start a new as well at go through the leveling experience…but thats just me…
You dont necessarily need seasonal to do that… i can do that on Eternal if i wanted to.
The seasonal unlocks are nice as well…

That being said…

I think it would be best to just have 1 realm where its eternal but seasonal comes and goes…

Best of both worlds…

For seasonal “ranking” type thing where ppl want to show off that they made it to lvl 300 and 500 characters…
Well its simple…

Have a prestige system…

Kind of like in Gears of War…
(I mean this is Rods game… i dont see why he wouldnt eventually do this if it was brought up)

If you play seasonal stuff and complete it then it will show it with a seasonal colored borders or symbol or somthing…

When a new season starts they can “re-up” and start new seasonal content… thus changing color or symbol…
If you reup you can have access to the seasonal journey and progression bar… etc…
If you stick to old character you can still play seasonal stuff just dont unlock journey or cosmetic rewards…

Make paragon back to individual characters…

You can make a new character and start over with paragon of you want…

Or you can keep same character while still playing with seasonal content…
(If you stay same character then border n symbol stays the old)

This way those who choose to reset n play everytime if they want to show how BA they are haha… they can flaunt the new border symbol

This will improve the game in many ways.

*Streamline bug fixes
*More efficient updates and enhancements to the game since theres less realms.
*Focuse content creation in one place rather than scattered realms…
*Less code, less storage space needed,

*Brings ppl together rather than split realms…
*Best of both worlds
*Play the way you want

  • It will allow for returning and new players to enjoy playing together withought any hassels… (as you mentioned)
  • Improves player base
  • Keeps people playing or return to game easier by starting were ya left off
  • People are happier with game and enjoy it
  • Possibly more revanue feom players buying stuff now because they enjoy the game and spend time playing
  • Much more…
