Season Content Being Retired Instead of Moving to Eternal Realm

Honestly seasonal realms and characters should be an option. You should at all times be able to play all the content of a game without creating a new character, the boosted gear and effects can stay on the seasonal server but all normal stat gear, dungeons, world bosses etc. should always be available to all players on all realms.

Cautionary disclaimer: I have no idea what the actual approach is Blizzard will take for D4 seasons, in terms of what might move on to Eternal and what won’t (aside from chars themselves).

From D3 season experience though, the season rewards were always moved on to Eternal e.g. cosmetics like wings, pets, portrait frames. Same for set/item reworks. Sometimes even major season features like new follower items (emanating powers) were moved over.

But by and large, the actual season themes were retired at the end of a season. I suspect that makes sense from a conflict-of-effects point of view. E.g. some seasons, there were powerful new currencies that unlocked uber weapon powers. In another season there might be extra char buffs available. Etc. If you only ever experience one of those powerful effects (like in that specific season), that’s ok. But imagine mixing and matching 25+ of them on a single Eternal char… that would be a real mess and probably impossible to balance.

Limiting these season-specific theme-effects to one season thus allowed to make them more impactful, because Blizzard wouldn’t have to be concerned over how to integrate them into the Eternal space and how they’d interact with previous seasons’ buffs. Instead they could go HAM for that one season, with those weapon effects, for example. And that’s where the fun came from.

I’m more worried about even being able to benefit from season rewards at all… if it means having to repeat the brunt of the renown journey and the current lvl 70-100 slog. Really hoping for some catch-up/shortcut options…

D2 seasons were ladder resets aside from a couple runeword exclusives.
D3 is what really added seasonal content changes.
D4 is adding seasonal content that disappears when the season ends.

The game already ended by reaching finishing the campaign and level 50 in eternal realm.

They invented seasonal realm to keep their player database from playing any other games by just increasing the maximum power cap by about 20% every quarter and a bit of marketing illusion to make it look brand new via the following methods:

  1. Better item stat prefixes
  2. Increase in item power cap
  3. Buff of less popular skill & of popular skill via items or upgrades
  4. Recycling dungeons, bosses or monsters
  5. Increase in level cap

If you want seasonal benefits play the season.

Thats false, any seassonal powers are removed. D3 seassons works exactly same as seasson in d4.

Much of the seasonal content is too powerful to just come to eternal and then start stacking up. It would be fun and interesting. I call it legacy format but how can you balance it? Monsters would have to be extremely challenging making it impossible for new players.

Seasonal content should remain a part of seasons. That’s the whole point of seasonal. Some gimmick to get you amped to go start over and play the game again. If you shove it onto the eternal realm, what’s the point of ever playing seasons to begin with?

Absolutely NOT.

Having the ER be a Season behind current season seems like a very obvious change that should go into effect. Gives you the ability to finish out characters, play a previous Season with an older character, avoid the Current Season, but still have Seasonal powers, keeps the ER always fresh, and anything popular from the Current Season can be migrated to ER which is a Season behind still.

It just turns the eternal realm into the seasonal realm. This is such a bad idea Im amazed ppl are going for it.

Players who do not want to take part in the Seasonal content do not have to. It is there for you to do so if you chose to. The only real reason people choose ER predominately is they do not want a Character Wipe basically at the end of a Season and to regrind, not that they do not want access to Seasonal content…

In theory you mean because players in Eternal realm have had to grind new gear almost every seasonal update.
