Season 8 looks so bad to me

In my opinion they should cancel the plans for Season 8 and instead make a Season where they concentrate on implementing the long-hold wishes of the community.

That would be so much better.

Unfortunately I don’t think that THIS development team would ever do that. They will stick with something bad no matter what and try to sell it as “cool”.

In my opinion it also shows that they don’t play their own game. Because if they would, season 8 would not have looked like in PTR.

It is so disappointing, but I think there may be a big problem with the leading manager of Diablo 4, Rod Fergusson. He seems to be a total failure. By the way, he was also the one responsible for Diablo Immortal in the first place. So as long as Rod Fergusson is the leading manager of Diablo 4, I simply have no hopes that this game will become significantly better in the future. “The fish always stinks from its head”, as we use to say.

They really made a survey about if players would like to have a season which would be about bosses and using boss powers a few days before announcing the content of the new season 8. The logical conclusion from that is that they had already finished season 8 content to “PTR readiness” level when they did the survey. In other words: They had already decided that the season would be about bosses and boss powers BEFORE asking the players if they would like that. And this to me speaks for a really, really very bad manager of Diablo 4. A manager who would first develop a product to a level of almost completion and only then asks customers if they would like the product would be fired in many other businesses. I mean, this is so unprofessional, it speaks volumes.

No one wanted a season about bosses and boss powers. The idea of giving players’ chars the power of bosses they are supposed to fight is ridiculous.

well DI seems to be pretty successful, so i guess hes doing a good job for blizzard.

thats fine. noone is married to a game. If one is dissatisfied and thinks it wont ever be a game to his liking, its absolutely natural to just play something else.

Some people are really acting like they are breaking up with some love interest here lol.

This is the only part about your post that even touches on what you don’t like about S8. Just boss powers. The rest of your post goes on to blame the entire dev team for essentially not making the game into something you would enjoy. Which is perfectly fine, don’t get me wrong, but all that your feedback amounts to is speculation about what the player base may or may not want, when really it’s just what you don’t personally want.

Let’s reword your entire post:

Personally, I would rather see the developers cancel Season 8 and instead focus on implementing long-requested features that I care about. That would be a much better direction for the game in my opinion.

Unfortunately, I don’t believe this development team shares my priorities. From my perspective, they tend to stick with ideas I find unappealing and present them as if they’re exciting.

When I look at the PTR, Season 8 doesn’t reflect what I would have wanted. It feels like the team doesn’t play the game the way I do, because if they did, I don’t think the season would have turned out like this.

It’s disappointing for me, and I struggle to have faith in the game’s future under its current leadership. I know Rod Fergusson has been involved in both Diablo 4 and Diablo Immortal, and because I didn’t enjoy those directions, I find it hard to believe things will change for the better while he’s in charge.

Another thing that frustrates me is the recent survey about a boss-focused season. Since Season 8 content was already at PTR readiness when they asked about it, I feel like the survey wasn’t really about gathering feedback—it seems like they had already committed to the idea before asking. To me, that feels like a flawed approach to development.

I just don’t like the idea of a season centered around gaining boss powers. For me, that concept doesn’t fit the game, and it’s not something I was hoping for.

This puts the focus on you, not the player base, as you clearly don’t speak for the majority, only yourself. Good luck out there, hope you find a game you enjoy.

No one or YOU?

For me S8 will be just fine, and a step away from D3 like and in the right direction, that i hope can have more steps…

Sounds like it will be fun to me. Relax, there is no reason to get so butt-hurt over a video game.

not sure why we even bother, OP has 155 posts, while he created 168 threads, so yea, its not like hed ever reply to any of his genius idea-threads.

S8 is underwhelming in content but looks like a nice “hiatus” for them to add more right type of changes to the game

P.S. if we’re honest in a “hindsight” way, if we’re to list the seasons from best to worst what would your list look like ?

For me this would be something like this tbh:

  • 5 > 3 > 7 > 4 > 6 > 1 > 2

S5 had best itemization with relatively decent balance. Ofcourse things were still getting out of control but the Horde (unless on highest levels) was still decent and fun

I liked S3 cause it had a really tactical seasonal theme and fights while still not having Pits for the sake of having a one. I also liked the constructs (would like to have a Construct Ruin/Event here and there even now)

S7 is decent in terms of Seasonal theme. In fact might be most interesting one so far (with the barbs and trees and such), But dislike that the game felt sped-up for no real reason, and the theme itself completely substitutes the entire content otherwise. Not even a need to go to the tree lol, just stay there and do that until no space to carry on

S4 brought new itemization obviously. BUT it also brought the Pit (and even worse MW)… Meh

S6 had interesting new mobs (it was the Exp. season obv). The theme of following the Realmwalker was kinda nice on paper, but think they kinda messed up that one by being too uninteractive for a long time. And yeah, SB was completely busted, so no wonder people dislike this one

S1 was obviously undercooked but the powers weren’t that bad. They were like what an itemization extension should look like => baseline. Ofcourse one of them was super OP and I hate that, but the game overall (at least progression in it) was still decently fine

S2 I get it was popular. But it also introduced literally everything I hated with the game. Sped-up gameplay, sped-up monster rebirth, sped-up and recycling gameplay experience, puzzle-solve gear, and the powers were obviously overtuned and overpowered (or maybe not but the monsters were really reduced down to absolute rubble => until level 89)

Where would I put S8 ?, probably just over S4 tbh. The theme is yes, undercooked (much like S1), but it’s also not something that completely dominates and takes over over the entire game, and is a fresh change that one can’t just jump in there and make a mess all out of a sudden while underleveled and undergeared (i.e. will have to level-up a bit normally at first, and that’s fine)

I mean maybe some things will still remain busted (we all know some powers were super busted already in the PTR), but we’ll see how it goes tbh

I’m grateful for s8. More time to get through other games in my library. But I’ll check out the final patch notes before I decide.

I may be back for s9 if s8 goes the way of the ptr.

By far the most reasonable take on here.

I plan to play through it myself, regardless of what they may or may not change due to the PTR feedback. Now how long I’ll stay interested is another story entirely, but I’ll give it a fair shake at least.

I don’t think it’ll be too different from s7, aside from the seasonal theme. A bit too slow on farming for my liking though.

I’ve played every season so far and if it’s time for a break then s8 will be as good a time as any.

D4 needs to look at how POE 2 is doing things where they are just steadily adding more content to the game even for eternal. D4 is doing nearly nothing to add overall to the game. All they can manage to do is put out buggy season after buggy season. We have to do better than this.

I did. I like this theme, and I really like the focus on improving the bosses and boss fights.

I’ve been asking for new bosses for a while. That’s great new content and the best part of s8 in my opinion.

Loot tables need another pass though.

DI was already in development and announced at Blizzcon in 2018, Rod joined Blizzard in 2020.

Diablo Immortal would have been a fantastic game if it wasnt pure P2W. The game was booed so hard at Blizcon. PPL were like wtf a mobile Diablo??? We want blood! We wanted D4!

Because before every season starts he comes around complaining about X Y Z then doesn’t engage in his own thread.

We should expect 1-3 posts daily from the OP until the season comes out.

Im more interested in what their forthcoming “road map” tells us about what the direction (for now) the game is going in. Ill play s8, collect the doohickies and whizbangs, and move on.

oh! remind me please, is there a rough date for that roadmap? totally forgot.

“Just before season 8” was the ferguson line
