Season 7 Review.... Thank you Devs!

Felt like leaving a short note for the bliz devs to say congrats on a great season start! There may be a few visual bugs but nothing to actually complain about. To be most honest, the game is in the best shape it’s ever been.

I appreciate the faster approach this season. Even tho I am not playing the other game, I know plenty of people are enjoying it and I know plenty of people enjoy both. The healthy competition between gg and bliz dev teams is only positive between two games that go as great together as chocolate and pb. People who want to play both can, and for people who just want to play one or the other, you still can too. Neither team has to fight too hard to keep our attention obviously.

Only playing the Barb so far this season and here I am sitting pretty at 241 paragon already. Accidently spelt my Barby’s name wrong so once I hit 300, I am just going to delete and recreate her and so what? I’m blasting pit 115, started the season on rank 5 on helltides already just to watch everyone show up after us first 8 … and boy howdy, did y’all ever! Tons of fun to watch Rob up there and me find a way to sandwiched between his two builds for only a moment. It’s even more funny bc someone thinks he is me or I am him somehow. Nice job showing up fellow barbs! So glad to EM exposed for the joke he is too. I called it!

For the record, I still love hordes and I am happy to teach people the secret in the sauce in maximizing their 2n+a! function’s potential. Super cool that the Bliz devs hid that programming easter egg in there and I bet my friends at Bliz would have known that I would find it. The Hordes are the Diablo Steroid version of the Danger Room from Marvel Heroes launched back in 2013 by David Brevik the creator of Diablo, and know that I would find it! Thanks everyone who helped with that! Btw devs, when I had that meeting back in 2020 when I got told that you all liked my ideas to create the Paragon board, I was shocked! And I am so honored you all thought of me and told me about that in advance of the game launch. I have been waiting to get my teeth sunk into it ever since. Hilarious that EM thinks he is somehow an innovator with all that ‘paragon board stuff’ that Mr Rogan called it.

Amazing. Surprise! D4 is actually secretly a masterpiece of a game. It blends together the best of all of the previous games, while creating something new, and paying secret homage to the original creator of the series by hiding a programming C suite algorithm in plain sight for you to find, and for me to covertly teach you programming! lol! The content, the gameplay, it is engaging and beautiful! Everything is coming along swimmingly and I am very happy about it.

Seriously, readers and true believers alike, if you do not know your Diablo history and you are new the series, enjoy D4 as it’s best yet in Season 7! Still somewhat competitive (even for us casual gamer dad like personas) and fun, very much having improved on loot mechanics and drops, while staying true to David Brevik’s original intent of the series. To be a game with lots of fun combat in a horror setting, with a great narrative, and casino style loot drop mechanics. You are supposed to get that feeling every time that great item drops. You are supposed to get that satisfaction of finding that mythic and smacking up that world or pit boss while having fun with other gamers. You made a horror land amusement park with a casino flair out of D4 and I am loving every minute of it devs! Okay, only complaint I have I guess is that microtransactions and these beautiful cosmetics are still too expensive. We know you know. Ce la vie!

The social aspects are on point and better than D2 maybe at this point. Some people might not agree , however, we can all be entitled to our own opinion and not be at each other’s throats over disagreements right? Having a game to blast away at demons is much better at resolving conflicts than any of that Lilith rhetoric.

Personally, I like the D3 style pits. It works very well in D4 as a throwback that works. Do we want and need more end game stuff… sure. The game has a few holes to fill and is still coming along and the devs have proven they are building more great things to come! D4 is now optimized for efficiency having improved so many things from the base game which was already great. You have done it. Thank you for the best season to date from D4. Idk, maybe lower some of the garbage non GA legs for next season? The added dopamine is great… for now but I agree with Rhykker almost. We might need a loot filter at this point. All things with moderation and such right? We can draw out next season a little longer me thinks.

This season is refreshing. Having throwbacks to Season 2 and 3 makes the gameplay furiously fun. Having throwbacks to the Witch Doctor, respectfully, works as well. Having the SB nerfed and the other classes like Barb and Necro shining again is even better! Personally still thinking HoTa is underperforming with the dps, however, I like that people are trying out the other skills and watching see people throw together new builds on the fly from whatever template and seeing people engage together over all the variants and sharing tips, that’s great too.

Any of my ‘acting’ bits aside, I’m really grateful to be able to be an adult and appreciate this for what it is having followed the series since I first got into Diablo as a kid. Thank you for another great season!

Any of you non Barb or Necros out there, Druid seems good to a lot of people too atm and I am sure that Rogue and Sorc will get more love and improvements in further seasons. It’s clear the devs have a lot of love and respect for the game and franchise and gamers and other dev teams from other games, I am glad to have 'em doing such a great job at developing Season 7.

Kudos!

After reading it all, questions remain, but I am not sure if they should be asked.

Instead I take this post and agree here with season 7 being one of the best seasons besides season 2. Not by suprise, because what both have in common is the huge amount of added powers (also through boss uniques).

Now I hope the devs acknowledge that adding many items and effects is overall a good thing for ARPGs. And that it would benefit the game in the long term if they keep the flood gates open. Lets have most of the Season 7 powers added as unique powers in Season 8, please. This game could be way more entertaining without the cherry picking.

Other than that, I think the new small Headrotten dungeons are nice. These and the green map areas with all of their events (the moving guard in particular) are a win and should be considered for a permanent place in D4.

The season is overall pretty decent. Story wasn’t bad. Enjoying most of the new mechanics and powers. Like the Whisper Tree area redesign. New mission types in the rot tide zones are good. Like the rothold mini-dungeons.

There’s some adjustments on drops that need to occur (both increases and decreases). A few classes need some things balanced or bugs fixed.

Armory is unfortunately a colossal waste without dedicated storage of gear. A blemish on an otherwise solid season.

thank you devs for not adding anything useful for the last 7 seasons thank you for making us pay 50$ for a dlc wich adds 1 new zone and 1 new class and adds less content than single path of exile league patch thank you for adding pay to win behind every corner thank you for treating your playerbase like a milking cows thank you so much devs!

Thank you devs for ignoring players stuck in the 90s who still think long grinds, low drops, small inventory space and endless baal runs is fun gaming.

Talks the guy who thinks Endless Pits is ENDGAME  its literally the same except Baal runs were fun because you never knew when you got a decent or one in a million uniq or rare.

Yeah sure. Grinding for thousands of hours to reach 99 and praying you got a decent drop in that timeframe would be SO much more fun.

You do know that 99 was not needed at all right ? Thats like completing season objectives 100% , a feat or an achievement.

what i also positively notice is the “relatively” low amount of bugs actually. i mean god, in s6 we were drowning in emergency hotfixes lol

Pretty much firmly agree with your points. Love the new Roothold Dungeons and wish they would stay as farming for materials and such in some way. Thought the story for this season was a bit short and didn’t really tie into the expansion story line as the devs promised in their announcements. We really need more surprise content this season given how fast it is. If there is no really cool mid-season event that is excited and fun, this season will get very boring real fast and Blizz will loose more player base to other games.

To be fair, I think saying armory is a stain is a bit harsh. It is mos def not effective without that dedicated storage and that is very true. That was my one question when the devs announced it and I am disappointed that it does not have that. It was sorely lacking in D3 and D4 should improve on the model more than just a simple gui difference. It’s the same thing as it was in D3 as is without any changes. Def needs dedicated storage for those items.

Also lacking this season again:

  • some visual text to show when a scroll of tempering resets can be used on an item or not. Being forced to use up a temper or two just to check if a scroll will work, ends up bricking more items and destroys build without being able to visually detect whether or not to risk it just to find out if you have already used a scroll or not.
  • Some way to not waste sooooo much time and mats doing Masterworks and having to reset all crit bonus. We desperately need a way to save one or two, and only go back one or two tiers of Masterworks.
  • There’s also some bug that was probably patched where you could pick up extra witch spell books and can’t do anything with them. It would be nice to get some hotfix that lets you turn those extra books in for witch favor or restless rot.
  • some of the temper recipes still need some work. Looking at the Barb boot/ammy mobility recipes for example. Why have 2 of the same movement speed bonus’ on 2 different recipes? Make a third recipe for just those two so there are now three options instead of having those current two saddling with excessive numbers of possible temper rolls to get. Reducing them from 5 to 3 on one would be an improvement or just leave it on Natural Motion for 4 there and take it off Barbarian Motion or other class movement recipes entirely. It is pointless to double up on rolls per recipe for any class on the same item slot. It instead creates an artificial obstacle making it harder for players than helping.

Edit:

In case I don’t ever get to formally introduce myself, feel free to think of my name as ‘Joe’ Lee. It’s not my real name, however, I am the adopted son of Stan Lee. There were a lot of people there that day when I announced on stage after playing bad air guitar that the the Marvel god himself adopted me in 2010! Always wanted to see if I ever met anyone else again from that day who was there. I literally won a contest to meet him using my ‘Spider-Man abilities’ and I told him about how I use them to hunt terrorists and criminals for a living. Seriously, during the last Iraq campaign in the GWOT, I was bunker busting looking for the deck of cards push with the FBI and Marines as part of Navy Intelligence (Normally we don’t get to talk about that sort of thing much and I have some very rare exceptions at this point in my career and I do not want to take this post off topic of D4. Thanks!)

That was 2010… now, as a Masters of Cybersecurity student at the best program in the world, I help teach underclassmen and other master’s students how to hunt terrorists and criminals for the FBI and private contractors! That is who I am. Please, feel free to call me Everyman or ‘E’ tho… that’s been my actual super hero name for a long time.

Thank you to everyone in game who asked who I am or what I do in game or just noticed this ‘tiny’ guy irl. Love you devs! Stay awesome and excelsior true believers!

Oh it’s this delusional fool again. Yay.

Stopped reading here.

You’re insane or trolling, or both.

I’d also like to thank the devs for doing absolutely nothing that would entice me to play D4 again. GOOD JOB!

The D4 forums, however, are still incredibly entertaining… at least, every few days.

Where is Hewhoishim? I need some popcorn and somebody to bicker with.

Hey look everyone! Lillith’s trolls came out to play again!

I warned you. The more you feed me your hate, the stronger I become.
