Unique items are underwhelming compared to what you can do to non unique items.
In some ways I’m glad because farming Duriel and his new clone boss is a chore that nobody loves.
On the PTR the only uber I used as a barb was shako. I had the swords but they were less powerful than non unique items.
Blizzard has two three choices, Do nothing and expect lots of unhappy people. Allow tempering (even 1 slot). Or just buff uniques to the point of they are worth using over items that can be tempered.
two weeks prior to launch and I’m sure blizzard will do nothing but they know what they are doing right?
Uniques won’t look that different, yet: Blizzard says it’s “toying around” with the ability to Temper Unique items (or something like that) in the future
Sounds like there may be changes later on, but we probably won’t see them until after S4. Sucks, but what can we do? Would’ve thought with all the rework to itemization this would’ve also been on their list. Guess there wasn’t enough time to fit everything in.
Many uniques need straight up buffs. It’s rarely the effects being super bad that’s a problem. It’s more often than not the absolutely sub-par affix stats and in the case of Unique 2 handed weapons or amulets, costs a whoooole lot of power from boosted Aspects.
Example? Bloodless Scream is a 2 handed scythe with terrible, garbage damage and mediocre affixes but a respectable Aspect attached to it, which lets all your darkness skills chill enemies up to 100% and deals an additional 30-50% dmg to frozen enemies.
It has potential to be good but the fact that it’s a 2 hander so you lose 1 Aspect slot by using it combined with it’s bad damage value and it’s sub-par affixes AND how you can’t reroll anything on it means it’s just not good.
The game is loaded with crap like this when it comes to Uniques.
Personally, my fix would be to allow Uniques to have their affixes rerolled as per normal, with appropriate adjustments to mats needed and to also allow uniques to have an aspect imprinted on them, which does not override their unique properties.
That right there fixes Uniques. All of them because now Uniques becomes augmentations to builds instead of hamstringing those very same builds.
Frankly just let uniques hold Aspects and their unique properties via the imprint system. Problem solved. Uniques still get meh affixes that are generally undesirable so it still balances things out a bit and will open the game up for build diversity.
I think really all this means is instead of wanting to build around 3-4 or more uniques, builds will have 1-2 build defining ones and then rock out from there.
Tempest roar will still be good, shako as well, tal-rasha or sacreligious too, etc and so on.
A win would have been balancing the itemization of the game so that Legendary and Unique items offer interesting choices and trade-offs. That is what good itemization is, simply going from one extreme to the other isn’t good design IMO.
Given how much time they have spent on this and basically sacrificed the season 4 theme to pour resources into the update - I just expected more when it came to balancing the new legendary items and Uniques.

But not until May 2nd CFC will we know if Unique items have been scaled inline with Legendary items and affixes.
That’s what I’m most curious about. Affix Scaling(blessed power creep eh?)
They might feel that native 4x Affixes and a possible Greater Affix IV might be strong enough for the time being.
For now they’re in the pipeline for possible crafting/altering(Tempering) soon™.
Would be fun if uniques were left as is but then you could aspect them as well with a new set of aspects just for uniques. These would not be as powerful as aspects for legends / rares.
Logically speaking, one would think they would receive the boost to their affixes as all the other items do, otherwise they would really be worthless. I’ll say I’m skeptical, but siding more toward optimism.
Now what would be nice if they add 1 tempering slot for Uniques. Uber Uniques… eh… yea I don’t know about this one.
Even Tempering them with unchanged, non-scaled Affixes would make/keep them pretty darn strong.
Native lower Base Affixes, 2 Tempers(or even 1), Unique Power, Masterworking = damn powerful item.
I agree and side towards optimism myself.
I “assume” that contrary to what we saw in the PTR, that Unique Affixes will globally scale with the er Loot 2.0 reboot Affix Values.
They were vague with their wording to PC Gamer though - Did they mean ZERO change at all? or merely Sorry No Tempering but yea we’re scaling base Affixes up to current Values?

I prefer to keep Uber Unique weak as I don’t like the item forced on us like how the Shako and Grandfather. Sorcerer players already has a Tal Rasha Ring farming force on them every season and also Rainment chest for most of their build.
Unique should be required to enable certain build like Rainment chest, not a better replacement of Legendary gear.
This also remove the majority chore in the game aka Duriel farm.

Uber uniques, and uniques in general, should not be stronger than legendaries, they should just do something special that might result in builds sometimes using them, to get that effect, even if it comes at a cost of pure dmg number loss.
