After reading the S4 announcement I am confused. What is the actual seasonal theme we get, the content to be precise?
So they reworked the items and crafting ok, they also did something with Helltides ok, but what is the actual seasonal content? In S3 we had the archives with a body guard pet and lot´s of traps, a follower skill system with a very interesting story line.
Season 4 seems to not have anything like that. It seems more like a Quality of life patch, than a seasonal update. I know that this is how D2 was, but I am just not a big fan of that.
I thought D4 was more going into the direction of POE, where we get new mechanics and stories with each season? Did they scrap that or is it just a filler season and I should wait until S5 brings a new storyline to discover with new mechanics like the pet in S3?
The iron wolves don´t seem like anything amazing tbh. farming rep to buy powers, is kind of meh.
But maybe I am missing something here?

The theme is, “Diablo 4: Where We Should Have Been at Launch”
Seriously though, the gear/crafting rework is massive. I expect with season 5 they will go back to having more season only content, but this patch pretty much remakes everything about gear. I’d rather have this than an unremarkable season feature people will forget about.

Meet Soudeh in Khejistan to start your journey to uncover this deadly plot. Working with the Iron Wolves will earn you several Tempering Manuals, which are key to unlocking the potential of your items in Season 4: Loot Reborn.
So help them out, get some rewards, call it good. There’s no powers here or overall gimmick other then some rewards.
It was a much needed patch where they had to pull just about everyone to change things around and get working correctly. So yes this patch will be on the lighter side for seasonal gimmicks.
You are correct, S5 I have no doubt will bring back more seasonal gimmicks. Again this was a major overhaul of the itemization system that took a lot of time to complete, so as such the seasonal gimmick suffered.
Yea, the grand scope of how big this patch actually is in terms of what it’s changing. Now granted, this patch should’ve been in since launch, but that’s not the reality we live in. Feel free to play this season or not if you so choose. Some people are opting to try out the new stuff on Eternal instead, some are playing seasonal, and some just aren’t playing. Up to you.

Cheers for the replies!
I will have a look at S4, but look forward to S5 with new content!
One thing I have noticed is that the ancestral characters are no longer as strong as they were. It seems like the intention is is that you have to get rid of all of your old loot and get new loot for everybody including the ancestral characters. My opinion.
Base loot with less affix’s now is so insanely boring. Tempering and Masterwork is cool but it shouldn’t have nerfed the affixes to get here. I’m already bored out of my mind and I played every season so far to ultra late in the season.

Well, you Basically get 5 affix gear, right off the gate, as soon as u start tempering
And you have control over those 2 tempered affixes
So you legit get a lot of power fast =o
I agree. The itemization rework is far more important than a temp thing that goes away in three months. If thats not good enough for some people, they can wait for S5. Some players have been waiting since launch for these changes.

I mean you are working with the Iron Wolves story wise and they have their own rep rewards.
