Scroll of Restoration, a treatise

I’ve had the same single GA pants for I don’t know how long. GA on Dex, max life and something that I enchanted into +303 armor when I was on the struggle bus trying to get into T4 the first week of the season. Since the meta has changed multiple times, and I’ve crafted 3 mythics playing keeping up with the Joneses I’ve had the same pants.
I don’t need +303 armor anymore. I’ve tried to enchant these pants to the point it costs 2.3M gold per enchant trying to get a +Basic skill. I still have +303 armor on my pants.

Tonight, I finally dropped a single GA +max life, Dex, and something else that I could potentially enchant into +Basic Skill. Excitedly, I went to temper and got the same Resolve Generation 4 times in a row the first time. No +Max Resolve. So, I can use a Scroll of Restoration. I proceeded to get the same garbage rolls again completely bricking the drop I’ve been waiting for. The single pair of pants that wouldn’t cost me 2.3M per enchant are now worthless.
Not asking for any sort of roll protection to avoid the same awful RNG rolls I just consecutively received (would be nice if that could be addressed but not holding my breath), BUT if I want to piss away every Scroll of Restoration I own to get a Temper that would actually benefit me on a GA rolled item that seemingly never drops, what’s the harm on your end?
Typing this after salvaging that pair of pants. They were now worthless, as were my hopes.
Back to 2.3M enchants tomorrow.

Weighted rolls. Basic skills is basically impossible to enchant. Would maybe take billions in gold to hit it.

Scroll of restoration needs to be reusable.

We already have dozens of layer of RNG, all stacked on top of eacher. Let us have this one GD thing.

Since I don’t see it happening that they would come off of the weighted distribution, we gotta have something that doesn’t feel like wasted time and effort.

And yes, sometimes your specific temper might have worked on the first or second try, but the fact of the matter is that numerous people report having seen the SAME temper roll 4 times in a row (which is hilarious to see when the temper group you’re fishing from only has 3 entries in the first place)

Imagine working for 40+ hours for that one ancestral item and bricking it twice…

Luckily they’re so rare now we don’t need to worry about bricking them.

Thanks blizz.

They should be multi use. I have 45 sitting in the bank unused that I would have used rather than sell a bricked item to the vendor if I had the choice.

“What bruh, do you wish to be done with the season in just one year? Take a look at d2 kid, we grinded that for over 20 years. Now back in my day…”

Unfortunately, as long as a significant part of these forums has a similar opinion, Lizzard has an excuse to not change anything.

Was fun bricked your item twice, right? Now go back to shop, peasant

Nothing new. Grab another Ancestral pant and try again. This wouldn’t be a big problem if we got like 100 GA every hour.

Seen this problem coming a mile away when I seen how rare ancestral were on the PTR. Unfortunately I didn’t see the aspect problem coming.

So far I been really lucky on my own tempers. Only bricked one piece so far and only had to use 3 scrolls. One of those wasn’t because of brick but because I changed builds and the gear piece was good otherwise. My buddy on the other hand bricked 4 rings in a row.

Someday they might make them unlimited but they will rng it another way and heavily weight a bad affix or something.

Unfortunately, I was there for “back in my day” D2. It felt bad doing the same runs over and over again. What can I say? I’m still a masochist for the grind. Anyone trying to look fondly back on D2 when it had 0 content in comparison is fooling themself.

If they gave us this “one g0dd@mn” thing then we’d ask for another. That’s part of the problem. But the bigger problem is they WANT us farming endlessly. Why? Because their metrics show the longer we play the more likely we are to buy something from the shop. That’s the ONLY motivation they have.

Yesterday their social media team released a YouTube commercial for “SlayPals!” With a real 80’s throwback vibe the entire point was “Buy VoH today and get your SlayPal mercenary!” It’s why the Spiritporn is doing trillions and quintillions of damage… so streamers will stream it and get new or returning players to buy the expansion.

Anything that cuts into their money making metrics will be reluctantly tuned only in the slightest because there’s nothing left of the teams that created a game where fun was the motivation. All that’s left is cash grabs and if some fun slips in by accident they’ll find a way to squash it.

I’d suggest removing the one time restriction and add an increasing cost - so first time = one scroll cost, second time = two scrolls cost and so on. Right now we got too many scrolls and not enough of good ancestral gears.

The Scroll of Restoration has pretty much become a must-have whenever I temper gear now.

I am not 100% understand your situation, but I always temper first before enchant. If it is brick, then I move on. This will save the enchant cost.

In Blizzard point of view, this challenge would not affect players already has reached gold cap, there are many of them

I am well aware of that. I still disagree with it. I’m fed up with endless greed when it cuts into the user experience this much.

If you’ve read the news, at some point a certain bavarian car maker decided to put in seat heating hardware into every single one of their cars, but only allow those users to actually use it who pay a monthly subscription fee.

Do I understand why they did it? Absolutely. Do I find that disgusting? You betcha.

I tempered first on only the second pair of GA pants i’ve ever gotten to drop with favorable stats. With a scroll I bricked the same pants twice, rolling the same +Resolve generation to roll 5 times the first time, then four times the second.

I notice pants drop are much rarer than chest and helm. I have few GA max life helm which I can afford to brick some. I cant afford to brick my rare pants, I understand your pain.

Most of live service game is designed to milk money from players. Many reputed developer stay away from this business model.

I have the same issue with pants. I was ready to move on from tassets for the resist to legendaries so I could get tempers on pants. I went an entire day of several hours without getting a single pair of ancestrals, even bad ones I was ready to settle for and improve on later, just so I could have my tempers.

Several full inventories of pants per hour, and every ancestral I found were unique. That’s an entirely different issue, by the way: too many uniques. Often, the majority of ancestrals when I go to salvage are unique, and not just after boss runs where obviously every thing is unique. I’m getting sick of the many pointless uniques I keep finding.
