Just wondering if anyone has an idea of what could be happening in my case.
I have a high end system 4090/R7700x/64gbDDDR5
Pc is running like an absolute dream except for Diablo 4 constantly freezing.
I’m playing with everything on highest settings, 4k, no dlss or upscaling on. Pulling anywhere from 100-120 frames at any given moment.
I can’t go more than 10-20min without the game freezing followed shortly by my entire PC freezing and having to hard restart.
I’ve tried every known trouble shoot except for lowering graphical settings.
I completely reset my PC, w11 and all my drives. D4 is the only thing I’m running while playing. And it’s the only game I’m having any trouble with.
At this point I’m convinced Blizzard cannot fix this and I’ve wasted $100 on this incredible game I’d love to play but can’t.

It seems that Diablo 4 is not releasing assets and you are running out of VRAM. It doesn’t matter how high end your system is. Monitor your VRAM usage and when it gets close to maxing out, change your texture settings to High or Medium and flush or reload the vram. It will build again after a while and you do it again and so on. Hopefully they will address this issue.

I appreciate the reply and advice. What is the best way to monitor my vram in your opinion?
I have tried pulling up task manager/performance/gpu/ and looking at the dedicated memory and it’s hovering around 14-15gb used at any given moment. Then when my screen freezes it either didn’t update before the freeze or it’s freezing at around 15gb used.
AMD and NVidia both have monitoring software. I usually keep it up on another screen or in the top corner.
You running GeForce Experience with the nVidia overlay, by chance? Pretty sure it’s enabled by default. If so, disable it.

No I have nothing on my PC except for Battlenet and D4. Like I said have tried every known trouble shoot and have completely factory reset my PC from the ground up in hopes of fixing it to no avail.
What power supply, brand, model and wattage?

Good one, nice! BIOS up to date? There are issues with older versions and RAM/CPU stability.
Yep yep. Bios up to date and all drivers. PC is running smooth in all aspects except for this D4 freezing problem. I’m at such a loss and so depressed about it lol.
If it was causing problems on the server side then maybe they would fix it quickly.
They could care less about the millions of burnt components at customers.
In diablo 2, the game engine has always been corrupted, but fixes were only made
when someone exploited this to their disadvantage.
How opposed are you to taking out 2 sticks of RAM and only running 32 GB? I’m assuming you have a 4x16 kit.
I do! I was thinking the same thing! You read my mind. Even though my thought process was purely anecdotal why your’s is probably knowledge/evidenced based lol.
I will have to try that. Thank you.
It’s an AMD thing. Traditionally they’ve had issues in random software with all 4 slots occupied. The memory controller gets cranky especially if you’re running XPO speeds. Worth a shot anyway.

Right. I’ve had to do a ton of research just to get it to post with 4x16
Conclusion was (at least as far as my limited peon knowledge goes) I can’t run amd expo.
So basically I have $400 worth of ddr5 6000mhz running at 3600mhz base speed.
I have 4 shiny pretty lights though so my small brain is happy.

Oof, that’s rough. Plus side? AMD thrives on speed. So while you may be missing 32 GB, you just might see some performance improvements by almost doubling the RAM speed.
Right. I’ve basically settled for lower performance (ram speeds) just to have all 4 slots filled for aesthetics.
If removing 2 sticks cures my D4 freezing problem that would be quite immaculate.
One last suggestion:
Are you running a 1440p or 4k monitor by chance?
I know this sounds counter intuitive, but there are a couple things to try here:
Lower the graphics to “High”.
Disable Nvidia Reflex.
Disable DLSS. (for now)
If you are running one of those monitors, you can set scaling at 125%, or 150%. HD, set it at 100%.
Cap the FPS in-game to 60FPS (for now)
In your nvidia driver panel, cap the FPS there to no more than your monitor’s refresh +5. So if your monitor has a refresh of 165, set it to 170.
Now. Regarding Geforce Experience. This can (and has) created Diablo IV profiles automatically. That means the profile it created will override any settings in the main 3D settings page. I personally don’t like Experience, its kinda annoying to me. I do run MSI Afterburner for on screen diags and adjusting fan curves, that sort of thing.
You can go to the game profile and make those adjust for nvidia I descibed above there, but just keep that profile thing in mind for future changes.
See if this at least helps it run better. You can increase settings back later.
Please note, your system will be taxed the hardest while at vendors or looking in inventory and taxed the least if you open the full map.
If you have to walk away for a few minutes, open your map!
Good luck!
You seem like you know what you’re doing but make sure you alternate slots and color match them, populated.
Are the AMDs picky like Intel? Where you use the two color matching slots furthest from the CPU first? Just saying.
