Basically the piss-poor moderation is what’s causing this to be the norm. In order for players to trade, you must have a verified B-Net account. Even so, some players who may have never engaged in trading could have this associated with their account.
In turn, removed it from my account and I’ve got since the implementation without a single bot request to buy gold.
If you’re tired of receiving gold buying requests from random strangers, either leave the Discord or remove the B-Net authorization from your account.
Just so you know, your Battletag is also viewable on the forums. It is considered our public user name.

Blizzard IS aware that the scummy gold seller sites are spamming friend requests though. Not sure when or how they will fix it on the Bnet launcher end, but they are at least aware of the problem.
While there’s a possibility that you’re receiving gold-selling adverts from forums, it’s not very likely (edit) their main method.
Especially when you can sign into [Redacted], go to the D4 section and speak with popular gold-sellers literally PAYING people to check Sanctuary Discord B-Net tags for gold selling and add them in-game.
Edit: Same on [redacted], which will probably be taken down if this post gains any form of traction or it gets called out on Sanctuary.
Edit 2: Same with private discords for gold-selling, a lot of MUTUAL servers landing with D4 Sanctuary.
Gold Sellers / Buyers et cetera, very popularly use Discord / Skype at this point in time.
You really really should not be giving any of those websites free advertising. Never name them.
If you want to send all that info to Blizzard, you want to email the hacks team.
hacks@blizzard.com is the email for that. They don’t usually reply, but that gets it to the right team. I am sure from there they can consider legal action too?
Anyway, you will want to edit your post to remove the names pretty please.
Legal action isn’t going to help. Most of these companies have existed for a seriously long time. Some of these communities have existed since Ragnarok Online when Sakray got first introduced.
What will help is Sanctuary Discord implementing a level entry for trading higher than 1, which would inconvenience a lot of people but would help them stop bots.
Then all they can do is buy Discord accounts at higher levels which most people wouldn’t care to sell them.
Again, while I’m certain that they get them from forums too I know for a fact considering I’m looking at the bloody advert on these gold seller websites in which they’re paying $0.50 per verified B-Net on Discord.
So if you’re in a popular discord and have a verified B-Net? Maybe there too.
If you don’t have it at all, then it just continues to confirm what we presently know here and now.
I left the Discord once I realized it was just a third party community server. Not interested in that and the people in there were just as toxic, if not worse, than the people on here.
I don’t have verified Bnet I am sure. I don’t link anything to anything else. Very twitchy about that. If one company gets compromised I don’t want anything else of mine impacted.
My Bnet email is also only used for Bnet and is not out in the wild. That might help too?
However, I don’t want this to remove from the verifiable fact that they’re literally paying for Discord verified Bnet accounts on those websites I mentioned and potentially in their own discords as well.
I am certain that having control of your information helps though.
My email is also only used for bnet so I think we have some similarities there. However, I had a verified bnet account until I removed it to test this after seeing the posts.
Edit: I’ve clipped the advertisements and sent it to the email you’ve told me.
There’s 9 websites advertising this and I screenshotted it with the names et cetera.
What is Discord’s policy on that? Can they be reported to Discord for account selling?
I know Blizzard does not allow it, but no idea what Discord’s policy is for Discord accounts. That seems to only encourage people to phish and use malware links to trick others into giving away or compromising Discord accounts so they can sell them for real money to the advertising scum.
I did add the Discord server but I rarely log into the app, so not “on” it much, if that makes sense.
I haven’t really encountered any of this yet personally. I have had a couple of random friend requests, but unless I know them or have a friend they are friends with and they say the person is ok, I usually ignore them.
I haven’t had a single gold farmer contact me in D4 (fingers crossed). Not in the Discord, and I try my hardest to keep my BNet tag private, even on here. If people don’t know how to get to it, I’d rather not show them. That way the bots don’t automate a way to scrape these forums too.
I would rather dodge an attack than block it. This is me dodging
Yup, gold is extremely valuable for even most basic tasks, you can buy top end gear (for my current space, all but one slot can be bought and even that one is arguable). Honestly, I don’'t mind either way, just that you can be sure, right now, that people that were crying for “high respec cost, high reroll cost, making gold grind taking long, open trade” were for commonly supporters/part of 3rd party resellers.
Again, I don’t care whether you outfit your char for RMT, it wont affect me, I just want people to know what kind of ppl are happy to loudly voice their opinions. What affects me is that each time I want to experiment with build it costs me ~25 mils (by current rate, that’s ~2.5 euros)
I got 7 invites yesterday, your bnet isn’t private, everyone can see it. One sec, I will send you bnet inv right now. - done
I see among the Discord rules (for Sanctuary), this line:
The use or discussion of hacks, bots, exploits, scams, thievery, real money transaction (RMT) and goods or information acquired by illegal means are all prohibited.
Do not link people to such content, even in an informative way.
That means you can report any users abusing this in Discord.
If you encounter a behavior that requires Moderators attention, use: Right click > Apps > “Report message”.
You may not operate a server that sells or facilitates the sales of prohibited or potentially dangerous goods. This includes firearms, ammunition, drugs, and controlled substances.
You may not promote, distribute, or provide access to content involving the hacking, cracking, or distribution of pirated software or stolen accounts. This includes sharing or selling cheats or hacks that may negatively affect others in multiplayer games.
In general, you should not promote, encourage or engage in any illegal behavior. This is very likely to get you kicked off Discord, and may get you reported to law enforcement.
You may not sell your account or your server.
However, the promotion is done off-website. Discord itself is used as a medium. And if your information and profile is public, then that is entirely out of their hands, no?
Very little they can do.
You can report users and users have been reported in the past.
However, this does not change or help the situation at hand.
None of what they’re doing is acquired by illegal means.
If you post your bnet on Discord and someone adds you? Not illegal and furthermore, hard to prove who gave this information away.
Verified bnet accounts are public information to anyone who has a public discord profile. This post is entirely to highlight the fact that certain websites are paying other players for information such as bnet accounts FROM DISCORD so that they can mass send friend requests.
I know that you can also get that from public forums too.
You can’t report someone if there’s “no one” to report.
The gist of how to drill this issue out I think would be to create a level requirement for trading higher than 1. This will all-together halt scammers and allow moderators to ban out people that are suspicious.
Sure, some will make it through the cracks but all at once trading profiles garner value because of a fear of being banned.
Should that person ever be associated with gold selling and buying, they immediately lose credibility in the community and are forced to rely on third party websites which is precisely where we want them.
However, any person no matter what can “check to see what acc’s you have” on your Discord. Nothing illegal there.
I didn’t say my BNet was private, I said I try my hardest to keep it private. There are a lot of public records that are… well… public. However, you can try to keep it private.
It’s technically public record to look up almost anything incriminating, and yet people still try to keep their DUIs private. I’d rather not give the spammers a free avenue into getting my BNet tag without them at least figuring out the basic way to get it. But I’ll be your friend if you want me to (I declined it though, my bad)
