Salvaging uniques should give you essence/materials that would allow you to craft mats for summoning any boss you need. That way anytime unique drops it’s a win, even if its something you dont need.
Right now, game allows for unique drops to be completely disappointing, which should never be a case for a unique item. You should always feel excitement when it drops knowing “at least i can use this unique to salvage it and target farm the one i need”
For example, salvaging one unique should give you unique essence and with 2 unique essences you can craft 1 living steel for example.
There’s no worst feeling of unique dropping and then it being absolutely useless to you. We play it for dopamine, give it to us

i am not totally against this idea. 
Don’t Salvage uniques, sell them. They salvage the same as a Legendary, but sell for way more than a legendary. This is where the dopamine is.
Also, bad take. There should be a reason to do certain content. If you muck up the intent behind the content, players will end up just farming 1 type of content because there is no reason to go anywhere else. At the same time, they’ll complain about how boring it is to farm 1 type of content.
But not every content is fun for everyone, so why not allow us to play how we want, if we like doing NM all day, why not have access to everything…
I mean in the end it’s our choice, but for me for example having to do helltides, while they are not available when I have time to play, it’s a source of frustration only. Same for worldbosses etc.
You simple shouldn’t be forced to do certain things as long as you can’t do them right away
Missed the point. Farming specific content like Tree of Whispers for boss mats would still be superiror option over doing NM dungeons and salvaging uniques from them in order to summon a boss. But when the unique item drops, either from a target boss or randomly in NM/helltide it would always be a win, salvaging it would get you at least a step closer to the unique item you want, even if its a small step.
i like this idea, but you can still get uniques in open world and dungeons. i think only the ones dropped from the bosses should be able to be salvaged for mats. that way like you said its not a complete loss if it isnt the unique you were looking for
I didn’t, I understood it. Your solution would do exactly what I said it would do. Also, you forgot about your actual problem, the dopamine hit.
Drops that are impactful trigger a dopamine hit. Drops that aren’t impactful don’t trigger a dopamine hit.
Trying to ride the line where drops aren’t very impactful but trigger a dopamine hit, is very hard to do. It is also pointless when you can just make drops that are impactful.
In this situation, they’ve already made extra uniques impactful by having an increased sell value.
Not a bad idea. It doesn’t muck up the intent of the content. The only problem is that the devs have went through a lot of trouble to prevent partying from increasing summoning mats. So if they did this, only the unique drops of the person that summoned the boss would salvage into summoning mats.
IMO, that just sounds like a lot of added confusion for very little benefit. You can just sell the extra uniques to allow you to more aggressively roll for perfect gear.
Sounds like something a robust crafting system could fix! 
I did 50 NM dungeons above tier 40. Dropped 3 uniques. So at that drop rate, farming mats for bosses through NMD won’t be a viable option.
But at least when 100.000 boots drop, there would be some excitement if I could salvage it for summoning mats.

Sell them? For gold? Why? They upped the gold. I have almost 100m already and i have not sold one single item to the vendor.
You’re better off taking the mats imho.
