Is anybody else struggling with which class to start this season. Do you know if sorcerer’s hydra will be super strong. But I’ve always wanted a strong necromancer mage class. Trying to decide which one will be the best starter. But I know I will play both classes this season.
Necro first, then sorceress. You’re welcome.
if your keyword is starter, then i would think sorceress is better for her AOE and movement speed. just focus on helltide for mob density to gain experience and stock up a variety of mats, including seasonal reputation (this round, devs included elites monster to provide reputation). that should pave the way for paragon on your next necro.
Sorc/Hydra starter for sure. No contest. Necro/Mage will be really good. So will SB/Thorns.
Skelly mage necro then get bored and go to hydra sorc then wait for season 10
Hydra sorc is at least something I haven’t played since D3 so sounds like a winner. Not sure I can bring myself to play more than 1 character this season but if I do I’ll see what else is decent after that.
I am ride or die Spiritborn, but I am definitely making a Hydra Sorc this season. I made one last season, and it was a lot of fun, and I know it’s going to be even better this season.
I am struggling with the same issue. Hydra Sorc is probably the long term winner, and possibly the only correct answer, but mage skeletons slap and you dont have to stop moving. With the teleport necro nerfs I’m leaning towards Sorc.
One of the things with Hydra that I don’t see mentioned is the gearing requirements. It’s going to be very powerful, and in a season where there are so many nerfs and unknown monster health scaling changes, it’s a build we can confidently say will be very powerful.
However, it has steep gearing requirements. It really needs 3 mythics. While a lot of builds want those same 3 mythics, the fact hydra scales so much with maximum mana and mana generation means that it gets more out of them. It’s unique Amulet is also dropped by the tier 2 bosses, so it takes a bit more to get that, too.
The big issue with Hydra is it really needs the +heads weapon temper to be triple masterworked. I’m usually not a proponent of triple critting a masterwork because for the amount of time and effort for something so rare it’s generally not worth it, but it is worth it in the case of Hydra.
Getting max mana/generation and max Hydra heads are enormous power jumps on this build. In S9, it should be easier to get runes, so ideally that means more mythics, and the recent changes to NMD means masterwork materials should be more common, but mythic crafting and triple crit masterworks are still long term goals.
I’m biased for obvious reasons, I say go with the Hydra. Let that thing do it’s damage while you stand there doing nothing but collecting the gold/loot.
I always struggle with the first choice and when I think I already decided… Then season starts and I make a totally different one😂
I say when it comes to Indecision like that, it’s always best to just flip a
another requirement is the obducite, gold, and luck to masterwork it.
in the ptr, i spent close to 600k obducite but was unable to triple crit the hydra head on the staff.
the next day, i was able to triple crit it within 50k obducite.
imagine the 5mil gold spent on each round of reset.
i hope it was a bug in the ptr that something not properly initialized, and not caused by the crazy weighted RNG.
Play the Skinny Methhead first, minions very easy to progress and farm gear.
My plan is Necro for the HC, SB and/or Sorc for the softcore.
S8 I had both Necro BW and Sorc, fully geared both. Boy…once I started the Sorc I did not even touch the necro ever again despite the power and max movement speed he had. Boring a.f compared to Sorc clear speed and combat animations but lot more tanky for sure.
I’ve been waiting for them to make a legit hydra build for awhile so I’ll probably do that.
Last season I regretted starting Sorc though to try ice shards thinking it would be better with the new items. Ended up making a Necro alt to finish the season journey faster with.
Hydra is listed S-tier by creators so it seems it’ll be pretty strong. Of course sometimes it’s hard to tell how long it takes something to get strong enough to do what you want to do because the people making tier lists just trade for all their gear and don’t have a realistic impression of how long it takes normal players to acquire certain things reliably.
Hydra first as necro didn’t feel good in the PTR.
Been doing that… like every season.
But always turns out the “second” class i try is more fun.
Maybe i’ll skip Necro this season and just go straight to something else
I am going Necro, Sorceress and then Rogue
i’ve played necro every season and minions are always a disappointment, go hydra.
