Thinking of throwing in the towel if this is the directing the game is going.
- I have ZERO interest in meta
- I am not watching nor will I ever watch how-to vids for a video game
- Been playing Diablo since the D1 demo CD was included with magazine subscriptions so I’m familiar with the games and mechanics
- I enjoy ARPGs. I am NOT here to play one hit kill bullet-hell games.
- Bosses going invulnerable for any period of time is just terrible. If a player can get powerful enough to bypass a mechanic let them… It should be the players choice to do so.
I get the challenge going up and even spiking as you reach the pinnacle (Presently T4?). Why am I in full 750-800 tempered (some masterwork) legendary gear and getting one shot because one of the 300 pixels the boss just threw out was in proximity to my character for less than a second? I’m not thrilled but OK wit the bosses now living longer. Not OK with the damage bosses output this far down the ladder.
Games gone from a pleasant way to kill some time on a weekend to just plain frustrating. This is the exact opposite of why I play any game. Blizz please rethink how you have reworked this. T1/2 was previously a fun time and a level I was fine remaining at. T3/4 is there already for those who want challenge. Leave something for the rest of us.

Just when I thought I have seen it all. I am not sure if anyone will be able to top this one today.

Are you taking too much damage and it is killing you?
One by one, swap out your damage dealing passives and paragon points for damage preventing passives and paragon points. Continue this until you dont need to think about your survival.
Then enjoy T1.
If youve played for years and years and years, then you know how this works.
Im not playing the meta and i hit T2 within a couple hours of dinging 60 because i worked on Armor/Resist/DR first, and dealing damage second.

I saw a major difference as soon as I changed out my boss powers. Went for T1 to T3 with no issues.

Even off meta its nothing more then a gear check. Off meta is fun but it does take longer to gear.
Last season I did metero which is a C tier build. I needed crazy gear to do pits 110+.

I am by far the worst player among everyone in my friends list and even I made it to T3 with an off meta build.

Off meta is getting left behind this year. Even some “A” tier builds are struggling with T3 bosses if they aren’t hitting the proper MW crits.
The devs really leaned into those HP and damage sliders this season, none of it is actually harder, just takes longer to kill so long as your spreadsheet math ticks all the right boxes.
If you ask me it’s overturned and I have 2 chars on T4 that are struggling so bad I had to drop back to T3. Previous seasons I made builds like a Frenzy barbarian that could easily handle T4 and pit 85. That build would have difficulty breaking into T2 in this current iteration of the game.

Yeah which is why I said it takes a crazy gear to go off meta.
Its doable but just a lot higher hill to climb when it comes to passing the gear/build check.
If your off meta even with amazing gear you still dont one shot bosses so it require learning boss fights and not standing in bad.

Just, no. Boss powers are insane.
I got to T3 using ONLY frenzy. Literally nothing else on my hotbar.
1 skill, 1 button. Immortal boss killer that only stalls out in T3.

Appreciate the suggestions thanks!
Already kitted out tat way. at a base level I have over 900 armor, 70% reduction to all elements etc. Paragons are somewhat mixed (around 110 right now if I recall) but I do aim for any that offer +%HP etc. when they are on offer. Believe I have around 3500 HP or a bit over and struggling to find anything to get that number significantly higher and even incremental HP increases (50-100 HP) tend to come with a significant damage loss to the point where my chances of survival drop. Don’t recall all the boss power names but I am using one that has a minor that gives %HP healed on hit. All boss powers are around level 12-20 at this point.
Part of my issue is poor eyesight. I will often not know I’m in the fire until a second or two have passed. Some bosses put so much “bad stuff” on the screen that my eyes cannot track where a safe place exists in the very short span available.
About changing the boss power? I went form T1 to T3 with one change.

I went from Grigoire’s Lightning Square to Ashava’s Poison Breath.
I need to maneuver because many times it will release the poison behind me.

The Lair Bosses are now the hardest content in the Torment tier, regardless of tier. You should not be attempting them, unless you are considering pushing the next tier soon.
That said.
One shots generally mean your life pool is not big enough.
The spinning fire column from Andariel does not care how big your life pool is, that needs to be avoided at all costs.
No it doesn’t. It only takes crazy gear when you are trying to push the higher end of pits or after you have hit your ceiling that your current gear cannot get you past.
That also depends if you have chosen skills with the better multipliers. Some skills have very little scaling so you end up forced to invest in crit, vuln and in some cases even flat damage if you try to run any sort of DoT build.
That’s the crux of the balance issues with if the game. Some builds get multipliers in spades where others are stuck stacking nothing but additives.
True. Last season I got my C-tier at 110 pit
People reach t4 with off meta builds, this is the easiest arpg out there, t1 is easy as soon as you ding 60, no idea how can you even make a build which struggles there.
I mean wow, just wow.
