Hit the nail right on the head. There’s a reason games like Diablo and WOW became so huge. They were easy to pick up and play but difficult to master. That is the secret sauce. Anyone could pick up the WOW or Diablo and have fun, but if you wanted to be good at them you had to learn how the games worked and develop actual skills to defeat them. Over time WOW and then D3 started getting too easy and it got to the point that there was no sense of accomplishment. Mobs became instant delete, players could just jump in packs and mow things down. Max level became trivial and so did bosses. The games became all about rush to endgame to the point that nothing really mattered. The people pushing back to this recent change are people who have gotten use to the easy, no challenge, games and expansions that Blizzard have been putting out for the past ten years. So I blame Blizzard for that because they are the ones who cultivated and catered to this participation trophy crowd. Of course this crowd are going to push back to any increase in difficulty or an aspirational tier. In their mind, video games should be so easy that everyone can complete them while watching youtube.
While Im not someone who thinks all games should be like POE ruthless, can we at LEAST have a game that isn’t so easy that I’m yawning when leveling?
Yes. Players (incl. me) became used to the easy content like 1-shotting everything. Im currently doing my last 2 1/8 paragon levels. Using a bloodwave necro doing Lvl 100 pits. If i had to fight against damagespongues for 10-14 minutes to complete a single pit i would not do it.
Problem is. We should not fight against huge damage spongues for minutes as a difficulty. We should face hard hitting (not 1-shotting) monsters that requires a little bit of positioning and strategic gameplay.
I use the collection called Gate to Sovengarde, then I add 4k textures, PBR, Community Shaders, etc.
So in essence it’s a modlist like Nolvus but highly curated since the collection can be partially dismantled for personal tweaks with a little knowhow.
If Nolvus was a Collection though I probably would have used that but Wabbajack lists are a different beast of the same genealogy.
