I’m really impressed with the boss one shot mechanics introdiced with Season 8. I mean what is the use of a big threatening boss taking up half of the screen if it can’t cannot do anything of note to you. Then it’s a regular mob with extra steps. Please keep it the way it is. My motivation of the season is to beat all T4 bosses with an f-tier char next.
Thr feedback so far:
Urivar and Gregoire = boring encounters but threatening enough to stay awake for a midboss
Beast in the Ice - largely unchanged except for resilience and tankyness. IMO, it was the best designed boss with phases in the base game. No need to change anything.
Lilith = easy to learn pattern, hard to grasp at first. The attacks aren’t telegraphed enough for an average player. I’d tune her down a bit and make her attacks more apparent.
Andariel - She is largely unchanged except for the leap attack and new melee moves. A very welcome addition. The fight lasts 2min at max if you know what you’re doing, don’t tune her down.
Duriel - The new one shot melee where she picks you up and eats you is GG. Very well thought design. I see her zipper stomach isn’t there as a decoration only. However, the second part of the fight is rather annoying for not being hard or challenging but just tedious. I’d change that part for Duriel to come up automathically faster or let her go down after most of her life has been lost.
Zir - T4 is dark soul hard for a melee fighter. His one shot attacks happen too fast and aren’t telegraphed well enough. I’d tone him down in that aspect. His ranged attacks can stay the way they are and can even be stronger.
Belial - Aracde cabinet boss taking up half of the screen is fun first time but otherwise just boring. I don’t think you can improve him in any way.
Roaming Belial - That one is really well designed. Keep him the way he is.
Mephisto Dogo - That was my favourite fight. He is very well designed. My sole critic point would be the descereted ground attack by poison wolves are hard to see/aren’t telegraphed well enough. I’d engulf those wolves in a poison cloud to make clear they attack with poison and the descerated ground should burn yellow/orange to be clearly visible.
That’s it for now. Again, under no circumstances make the bosses easier. I am busy person, I’ll really need 1-2 months to finish T4 ubers with my f-tier char.
As mentioned in other topics I just need a bit more consistency in the fights
Sometimes I get scratched and die, sometimes I get hit right in the stomach and survive… Need a bit more intuition regarding those things
The “small” and side-attacks need do less damage and more debuffing, the big attacks need some perimeter penalty so there’s more consistency on those
The CC buildup (stagger) needs to be a bit increased so CC builds can nearly/comfortably stagger bosses 3 times in a fight, and I think a bit of enrage phase near the end would make up well for the buffs/nerfs in other direction
great thread.
i almost didnt expect some level headed input on this matter. I can agree to most of your parts, except for lilith. Id love if a pinnacle boss would stay strong, but yea, we are discussing details there. again, great thread.
Too bad that it’s gonna be a one shot boss kill in the end…
Wait and see…
I like the enrage phase before they’re dying. That would be a nice addition.
Great post. Lets hope the devs take this to consideration.
They have done a good job on the bosses so far
I stopped reading with beast of ice great design, really? xD
@Thax It is not necessarily bad design per se but (again) it is inconsistent
The shrapnels that get lobbed when hitting the ice sometimes just hit and deal damage before they land, and sometimes the beast literally landed on me and nothing happened (I didn’t die), but the shrapnel hits do one-shot kill
Need to do a bit of clean up on that
Let me see, a beast with wings in an icy temple, attacks with melee and frost attacks on the ground. After receiving enough damage flies and attacks from the air with clearly visible patches to dodge from. Around the arena, you have a storm tearing you apart. Neither the patch nor the storm insta kill you. They can potentially kill you if you are caught in too long in them. After it dies it shatters like an ice beast.
Disclaimer: I haven’t died even once to the Beast in the Ice in this season not even on a summon necro. Compared to T4 Andariel or even T1 Mephisto doggo, he is a cakewalk.
