After watching the campfire chat I can definitely say that pretty much everything the devs mentioned is a step in the right direction. However, what Diablo IV needs are not minor improvements and quality of life changes for those who will play this game no matter what.
It needs a complete overhaul. I needs something radically different and exciting to not only satisfy the diehard D4 fans, but to bring back those who left and incite the new players.
This might be an unpopular opinion, but I genuinely think that it would benefit the game in a significant way. I think they should reset the realms. There, I said it. Everyone starts at lvl 1. Torch the staleness out of the game and create an even playing field for everyone again.
D4 is waaay past the point of small positive changes. It needs a 2.0 treatment badly.
I disagree I think it will bring people back simply because people paid (up to) $100 for a game they did not like and would like to play at some point.
I will reserve judgement on whether this is the right direction until I play it and it feels more fun.
Would you say it’s moving in the right direction though? Ignore me, too early in the morning.
They’re essentially going through what Early Access games go through, but sadly they sold it to us as a full release. Yes the game still needs a lot of work, but I feel they are improving it, and in a big way with this most recent update.
When S4 starts there will be a big jump in players as well as streamers streaming and their sheep watching. If there is good press from the streamers then more of the sheep will follow. This is obvious.
Skipped past the initial sentence, apologies. Early morning no coffee. Also I’m not sure how resetting the Eternal Realm would help in anyway. You’d have a lot of backlash over something like that. Seasonal wouldn’t be affected at all of course.
Also with this new patch even Eternal people will be logging on to get new items all over again, so in a sense it is restarting people, just not from level 1 and only from a gearing standpoint.
changes to the itemization are anything but small in an ARPG.
atleast i will check out S4 because of that.
also the actual S4 content was not shown yet, so saying S4 is good or bad is impossible since S4 was not shown, the itemization changes are not season content.
and what do you mean, reset? every season is a reset so i don’t get your point.
They do this every 3 months. That’s what seasons are. And no one wants to do renown or statues again.
This was a complete overhaul of the game. Item affixes are massively different, there’s a real crafting system with a long tail of item progression, they made big changes to the way we level up and increased the speed of it, they made the codex a real thing you want to care about, they are making some big needed changes to classes, they have opened up trading in a big way, and they added a new endgame activity to go along with the ones they added in the last two seasons (boss ladder and gauntlet).
I think this will draw players back to try it. Streamers will be there, there will be new videos about how to do the crafting and showing off fun examples of it, LE will be getting old (unless they release a new cycle first), and PoE2 beta won’t be out yet.
I’ll reserve my judgment (for now), have a few ideas that want to share as improvement suggestions (I think people will like them ) but will play the PTR first to see how it works
The one thing I dislike is embracing too much labor, and makes no sense to me to extend the game instead of enrich/slow it down, but that’s I guess by design now…
This isn’t really how the streamer-audience relationship works. Streamers are going to be more positive about the game than the average sweatlord who watches them because it is in their best interest for the game to be good and for the content to be fun to watch. They will get negative about the game and move away from it if the audience starts to hate on it again.
