S10 is the first season I'm actually looking forward to

My first ARPG, like many players, was D2: LoD.

Eventually, transitioned to PoE and stayed there for years. Played D3 for a bit once the expansion was released, but mostly stuck to PoE.

Then I tried D4, which I liked initially, but it still felt severely lacking in numerous ways. For example, the devs are finally making it so you can see which NM sigils correspond to whisper bounties. Hooray? Only took 10 seasons.

Clearly, I’m still bitter about how slow the devs have been to make small but significantly impactful quality of life changes.

Yet, maybe for the first time in forever, they’ve hatched a decent enough idea to keep me entertained and curious. What I like most in ARPGs is experimentation and discovery, and season 10 might be the best time to experience this fundamental aspect of ARPGs.

Yeah, I really enjoyed PoE2 when it released, but my gosh… I just can’t get into it anymore.

To conclude my diary entry into the void, I’ll just say I’m eagerly looking forward to spending maybe 2 weeks playing D4 before I experience absolute boredom from this ARPG again because its endgame is merely pit pushing (how exciting).

But hey, I’m being real with you, Blizz. Haven’t played the season yet (tried the PTR, though), but I think you guys cooked up a real interesting idea here. I just think you keep missing the mark with endgame stuff; where is the progress on that? When were pits introduced again? Season 4? Come on, that’s just sad.

I hope you find enjoyment, but I caution everyone not to get too hyped about chaos armors as to avoid getting let down.

There are cases where wearing two amulets or two weapons or two helmets or similar allows you to do different things, but actually look at the build and you’ll see far more often it’s just moving deck chairs around, like in previous seasons.

But you know that after three months, your whole character dressed in Chaos Armor will become completely naked, because all those items will go down the toilet forever?

You won’t be naked, just ineffective.

*At the end of the Season, Chaos Armor will have their unique power and appearance removed but remain in your inventory on the Eternal Realm.

Interesting that makes it sound like you’ll keep the 4 stats, without the unique power itself. Doubtful you’ll be able to temper it. I’m guess only MWing will work on it. Ty for the info though, I’m guessing that’s in the patch notes?

Probably true.

I am probably overhyping this. But I am hoping the chair shuffling is enough to increase variety or novelty in builds to a significant enough degree that it keeps me engaged for more than 2 days.

No, your wrong. Your not suppose to like Diablo 4 in any way/form of entertainment purposes that are different for every individual.

Hopefully the haters of D 4 and those who claim they’ll skip season 10 (yet post on the forums Anyway though they could play something ELSE) will persuade you not to play Diablo 4 anymore.

I’ll probably hop-in a bit next month. I’m not convinced that the armor itself is what makes the season but rather the perks but will see

I honestly don’t see why anyone playing PoE would be interested in D4. At its core, D4 is still just an arcade game—it’s not a proper ARPG

It’s buried in either the blog post or patch notes, can’t remember which at the moment. The blog post, I think.

If you’ve played the D3 seasons where you could put different items in the different cube slots, it feels like those seasons.

And like those seasons, it really depends on your class how powerful, and in some cases, interesting, this becomes.

IMO, the ability to bridge the gap in strength between mythic and non mythic builds is what will allow me to play longer because I won’t hit that power ceiling as quickly on some of the crappy builds I play.

moving deckchairs and losing tempers. :stuck_out_tongue:

I can justify playing it till you have your free 200 plat. But after that…yeah…

And arcade games were fun. You went, played for a bit, and then went home.

That’s exactly how I play D4. I play the start of a season, and then I quit until the next season.

I was thinking of the one bulletpoint that would condense your post into 1-2 sentences… and you tease it here, but you don’t state it. What a tease!

The chaos armor is the best thing they have implemented. Which they are going to flush down the toilet when the season ends.

and then in like 160 years you’re dead. what a bummer.

People keep reciting this over and over but are we SURE this is the case? Like no way at all they could change their minds on this? Personally, if they do this I’m skipping the season. What a colossal waste of time.

It says in the article Chaos armor will not remain after the season ends.

Which would be a mistake. If anything they should keep and even expand upon it. This feature is actually generating hype for the season as players are thinking of all the new possibilities and gearing and build crafting they never had the options of before.

Next season:Frankenstein powers.

If they do indeed change the nature of aspects and how the skill tree operates, which they’ve alluded to, then it’s a moot point.

For how much some of you beat this drum of how big of a supposed error not keeping these would be, how come none of you are posting any “new builds”. For all the supposed new build diversity losing these would rob the playerbase how come no one is giving specifics.

There are a few interactions that open up, mostly by using multiple items from the same parent slot, but most “new builds” are really just “new multipliers”.

I feel like I’m playing goalie here just to keep expectations reasonable because I know so few people play the PTR and therefore don’t really appreciate how these will actually operate.

I don’t want to be a killjoy, but on the other hand we see scenarios like with the Balazan Spiritborn in S9 where something gets hyped but people get disappointed when they see it in action because they didn’t play the PTR and therefore didn’t understand it’s shortcomings.

For those that didn’t play the PTR, know it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. A few notes below.

  • In endgame, we’re predominantly talking about pants and maybe boots. The mythics in helm/chest slots are still very strong and will remain in many cases best in slot.
  • For QOL, you may not want to run a chaos armor in the boots slot in favor of movement speed bonuses.
  • If you do run multiple chaos armors, be warned that survivability stats will suffer as these are almost all offensive uniques.
  • A second amulet may help with resistances as items keep their implicit stats when becoming a chaos armor.
  • Some items on the PTR had lower stats than in their native slot. This seemed to be particularly the case with +skills.
  • The patch notes don’t elaborate on drop chances from Bartuc on T1 and T2, but he has guaranteed drops on T3 and T4. Therefore, it’s highly advised to get to T3 as fast as possible. Chaos armors will speed up progression in T1 and T2, but they’re hardly required for such content.
  • On PTR, the best source was Bartuc, however occasionally a special chaos rift would spawn in a Nightmare Dungeon that would drop one. Focus on chaos rift sigils for a chance, and use the compasses they generate to fight Bartuc in Infernal Hordes.
