I really wanted to play a bleed build in S1, and stuck with it until level ~40, but the use of both rupture and rend just feels bad to play - wanted to see if anyone felt the same way.
My issue with rupture specifically is that there’s a weird amount of startup lag on it, and a slight animation delay. You want to activate the attack speed buff initially, but you feel locked into the animation (if the ability even hits at all).
Moving onto rend, I just wish the arc/range of the ability hit farther & wider, or if there was an aspect to make it 360. The room clear feels especially bad because you can’t seem to hit anything, and there’s not really any way to improve it. Whirlwind does significantly more direct damage, and allows you to move while channelling, and also through enemies. Doesn’t feel particularly worthwhile in comparison.
Just wanted to throw this out there and see if it was a common sentiment at all. If the rupture animation was sped up, and rend had even slightly better range/ability to apply, then I’d switch back in an instant.
rupture does feel like a waste of a slot, it’s just a small convenience when you’re waiting 2 seconds for an elite to die, but rather have something more useful in my bar.
As for rend, it’s my most played skill but yes it has a very small arc and it’s very common for the character to be body blocked by things as it attempts to hit something that’s almost on top of you but just slightly off. The arc really needs to be bigger.
Try iron maelstrom if you haven’t, and have your basic attack use a different weapon than rend to help the cooldown, and it helps a bit with clear problems (but not entirely)
I am 61 running a Rend build. Honestly, I have very few issues.
I tried to use Rupture, but just switched back to Death Blow. The thing with Rupture is inconsistency with target. At least with Death Blow it will hit and do some area damage as well, which is nice. I do admit that Rupture has advantage, especially when you have a boss down to only bleed damage and are just waiting for it to die and avoiding mechanics.
To make Rend work I had to really focus my build and make sure I got the correct synergies with my Aspects/Codex and Paragon tree.
I do admit the arc on rend is painful, especially with the build up it takes at higher levels to use it. I spend alot of time grouping stuff up, which helps. Since 75% of everything seems to be ranged I also have to spec in all the ranged aspects to help out by reducing damage, stuns, etc.
Ironically, Rupture is pretty bad for bleed build, consume dot without adding any multiplier on top of it? No thanks. Skullbreaker is Blurred Beast for Barb. Except skullbreaker wont work on bosses. Ah, the unfairness in this game…
