Runes DON'T accumulate Overflow

I’m new to the forums and don’t know if this is a known fact or not. But since I did not found any topic on this subject I decided to create one.

TL;DL → Once the Rune gets enough offering to activate, it will no longer gain more offerings, even if it’s waiting on the Cooldown. So if you want to benefit from Overflow, use Runes that grants huge amounts of offering in 1 go.

So, when I read about the Overflow mechanic I thought that the offerings would pile up until the next activation of the effect. To my disappointment it didn’t work as I expected.
I first notice this trying to use Vex (+1 to +3 on all skill). I could get +2 by using Cir (300 offering with 3 sec CD), but I could only get +1 with Noc (5 per CC).
In my head, while Vex was on CD the Noc would accumulate more than 450 in those 5 sec and activate the +3 in the next cast. But, nop, only +1 for me.
My build has a lot of CC… I mean, really, a LOT… just made a test here and my average (on just 5 dummies) is 170 offering per second. That is almost double the offerings required for the +3 with Vex after 5 sec. But as I said in the TL;DL, the offering stops accumulating after it reach the trigger amount, which in this case is 150 for +1.
This discrepancy can easily be observed if you pair it up Ton (meteorites) with Neo (200 if no damage taken for 2s) and then with Lith (25 standing of 0.3s).

  • Ton-Neo will make many meteorites fall every 2 seconds.
  • Ton-Lith makes 2 meteorites fall every second. (nice surprise here, seens that runes rounds up the Overflow offering, at least for Ton)

If the Overflow accumulated past the triggering point, Lith would generate 75 offerings, which should make drop 4* meteorites per second (*because of the round up). But no, only 2 will fall.

This mechanic makes it really hard to use Overflow properly. For instance, if you want the +3 skill from Vex, you need to use Igni, Nagu or Feo.

  • Igni: stores 25 per second, up to 500, gain stored offering on non-basic skill cast.
  • Nagu: 100 after 5 seconds per summon active during the entirety of the 5s, up to 600.
  • Feo: 1000 on Injured or CCed, 10s CD.

Those 3 runes are the only ones that can generate more than 450 offerings at once. And lets be honest, Igni is impractical for most builds and the cooldown from Feo means that Vex won’t be up 100% of time. Which leaves you with summons.

This also becomes a problem when the Overflow is what makes the effect useful. Lets look at Lum (2.5 resource) and Poc (5 per 5% resource spent). You would think “I have 100 max resource. If I get 2.5 back per 5 spent, then this combo gives me 50% resource reduction, right?”… well… do you make 1 attack per second? If so, then yes, you are right. But if you use more than 1 resource spender per second, then no, you wont get back half of what you spent…
Lets say you make 4 attacks per second, each costing 25% resource. The way the Overflow works means that you will get 12.5 resources back from the first attack, but nothing for the other 3 attacks. So in total you will spent 100 resource and only get 12.5 every second. I can see this being helpful on some builds, but it is not as good as it seens.
(For Lum, I like to use Neo, this combo gives 100 resource every 2 seconds).

This is it folks. Be careful with your Runewords or you might end you losing good effects because the mechanics of Overflow are not clear.
