At level 2 I selected a bow skill, and so the basic melee attack that was being used with the starting two daggers is now replaced and I can only use the bow attack on my left mouse, how do I switch back to using the “basic / no skill” melee attack and the daggers with my left mouse?

So Diablo 4 is a bit weird
It is your skill that determines what weapon you use
So if you want to use daggers you use a dagger skill
You can reset your skills and put it to dagger instead of bow
Reset is free upto level 8
Yes, I discovered this information after researching to find the objectively unintuitive methodology utilized.
This is not acceptable.
Tragically, too many will accept it.
Such mentality is why the unacceptable persistently permeants humanity;
spanning all history, and all across the globe.
I’m only suffering through this atrocity of a game to honor the generosity of a friend that spent the money to buy the prelease for both of us to play.

That seems a bit of an over reaction. You aren’t intended to “white” attack once you choose your basic skill. It’s inferior with no upside. If you want a melee basic skill just take two seconds and respec into one. Normal attacking once you get your basic skill is strictly inferior.
Think it’s safe to assume this person is a troll with that kind of dramatic reaction to weapon swapping.
