Respec Needs to be More Limited

I’m not talking about costs. I’m in favor of respec costs, but that’s not what this thread is about. You can go argue about that somewhere else.

I’m talking about the fact that I can literally respec my entire character in a second in the middle of a boss fight. That needs to be limited. I shouldn’t be able to beat Phase 1, completely respec for Phase 2, and completely respec again for Phase 3.

We should have a specific vendor for respeccing, or only available when you’re in town, or only available when you’re out-of-combat for X time, or something.

No, respec should be free and no restrictions.

you can just choose not to respec in the middle of a boss fight.

Sorry I disagree, my reason would be say in a nightmare dungeon you need 2 different builds to beat it and you cannot go back to town while in the middle of a dungeon. That’s my reasoning like it or not.

If you feel the need to switch between 2 different builds to beat one dungeon then there’s no point in having builds at all. We should just give you all skills unlocked at all times and god mode and infinite health and damage.

so narrow minded, I’ve played plenty of games where you have needed to respec gear and skills to complete a task especially in MMO’s. Any way don’t try picking an argument with me just because you want to stay negative.

I have to agree with OP on this one. Even D3 has limits on respeccing in certain “combat zones”. I personally love the D2/D2R respec system. You get 3 freebies per character, and any more than that you have to essentially “pay” for. Technically you can respec in the middle of a fight, but let’s be honest, it’s way too punishing to do that. Who respecs mid uber run? Respeccing on the fly just seems like it’s further distancing away from Diablo.

Yep.

If this was wow…I’d see a point. since the sweat lords could/would force all 25 people on raid to be doing this the whole damned time.

this is a SP game. in an mmo setting but still…SP. let the sweat lords who do this have at it.

But that’s me. iN d3 seasons past I said I will try for at least high ranks first 3 days. and as I saw my numbers with caring, a small bit of no -life too…and went wth is this. I am In the basement. so many trailing 0’s behind. the desire for extreme no-life to equal that I did not have.

Moral to that story…in d3 games you will not beat out no life sweat lords. May as well let them have this…they will still be burying most on ladder start anyway lol.

u get thrown gear that works better that needs a respec… only d2 elitest want u to start the whole game over cus “reasons” i should respec anywhere anytime i need to…

Unnecessary time sink just to respec a failed build is not fun or productive. Why would you want such a constraint? Because you want people to follow cookie cutter build at the start to save themself the trouble later?

Players shouldn’t need to do so much research just to play a class.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being able to respec at will. If you can do it in a fight and not die, more power to you. I’m also for it costing gold to do, however, i think it should cap out where it’s slightly prohibitive but should never get to the point where the answer is to just create a new character.

Why should I be forced to obey your preferences?

If you don’t want to respec freely then limit YOURSELF to only respecing when you are in town. It is funny that all the people who want respecing to be limited appear to have very little self control and feel the need to force their preferences onto other people instead of just imposing their own limitations on themselves.

I’ve never been able to agree with the anti-respec players. It’s a nice option to explore different builds. If you don’t like it, then don’t do it. I think that they’re part of the anti auto gold pick up group as well.

You can portal home from a dungeon and return to it. If you had to go to town to respec, people would still be able to change as you describe.

I think respec it’s fine as it is, It allows you to test skills at the beginning of the game, and it gets more expensive as you level up untill being prohibitive to respect the full tree several times a day.

Respecting for free anywhere would be a joke, and the respect character, much like the one in DII artificially slows the gameplay.

RPG, you make decisions, have consequences, which in an ARPG that involves your build basically, you can’t have a character that’s good at all, that would be a poor decision.

Feel free to… not respec?

I’m all for this QoL addition simply because the game throws some rando crap at you and if you aren’t prepared you die or if you’re lucky escape.

If you are lucky enough to escape it is very nice to be able to quick switch just out of range of said trouble and get back into it instead of having to port to a town and then back in a very tedious way. But you do you.

To each their own.

I agree with OP. We should not be able to respec out on the field or during combat. Should only be able to respec within town limits.

Unlimited respec for free forever by default. That’s really the only way. Everything else just removes fun per minute for no benefit whatsoever.

Absolutely not, there needs to be consequences and needing to commit to a specialization.
