Respec Cost lesson not learnt from WoW?

Not one lesson was learned making this game except, people will buy mediocre garbage.

I am fine with respec costs, keep them as they are. We shouldnt be able to change specs 30 times per day.

You went to the extreme. Not that there’s anything wrong with (in my opinion) respeccing 30 times a day, I’d be happy with a day, or a two day timer, where it was cheap and affordable - and then increased significantly from there.

People want freedom to experiment and try other things, other builds, make use of other gear. If the cost to respec is “painfully” expensive (word right out of the dev’s mouths) it’s taking that freedom away from the player through arbitrary and unnecessary restrictions.

Not to mention something like a thorns barb may literally be rendered close-to-useless in some group content…

Character progression presents options because choosing between those options is fun. If there are no options, then character progression is boring. If you give options without costs, then people can try them all. Once they’ve tried them, they want more options. But you can’t just create new options every week. So you set up a system where people can earn new options by completing a season get access to a new build-defining set.

People play and get the set and feel like they’ve earned the cool new build they are playing. They can’t swap it for other sets, they can’t go back and get it if they didn’t earn it that season. People who didn’t choose it can’t get it. Sure sounds like an artificial and annoying version of gating character builds behind a time-consuming grind.

EDIT: somehow hit the button too soon. Point is, people want to have to invest in their builds. Devs want people to invest in them. Pacing out gameplay options means that the game has more life and you get more out of each option.

They have that freedom. The choice only gets hard (the meaning of the words the dev used) once a player is high level.

To which your solution is that thorns barbs should get a second character for free so they can group as a non-thorns Barb?

Circumventing game balance isn’t “freedom” it’s just wanting free stuff.

True but that’s not my reason.

For druids, there aren’t a lot of themes I’m interested in. I only play casters so druid does have limitations due to being a. Hybrid.

The sorc however is a full caster class with a lot of options I am interested in. If I play it, I know for sure I would love to dabble in everything.

And unlike the druid, the sorc feels really strong without any borrowed power. Borrowed power just further adds to their design, which is why I think their design is way better than druid. Druids power is dependent on the combination of everything, Soo I need borrowed power.

So thus, since there are less thematic options for me and their design being very restrictive, I don’t. See. Myself tempted as much or at all. Any changes I do make won’t be full blown scale in comparison to my sorc.

Overall is very unfortunate, but w.e. blizz will blizz

lots, actually. There’s videos of people having played the end game builds talking about it, and even the latest live dev interview they clarified that they just want to avoid constant(as in multiple times per day) whole build respec’s. They even went so far as to make one point at a time possible, rather than a ‘reset’ button that just has a flat cost and you have to redo your whole build all at once. This was done in response to closed beta feedback (so the patch notes said)

Utter nonsense. The game is clearly made by passionate people, taking what they know people loved in D2 and trying to change what people didn’t love about D3, and find a middle ground they think will make a lot of people happy. I think they’ll largely succeed here, your opinion on the matter notwithstanding

On a final note. Gamers, please. Do what you do when you approach every other video game in existence. Try and get the most out of it, with the restrictions you’re presented with. Don’t go and beg for change. If a game is just so unappealing to you because of how it’s made, don’t play it.

You’ll be able to try as many builds with your character as you want with very little resistance, in the early parts of the game. You’ll learn and get a feel for all the concepts, and be able to extrapolate how builds will get more powerful ahead of time, knowing what kind of items you’re looking for.

If you’re 50+ hours in to the character and an item drops that you still just cannot fathom how it would affect you without respecing your entire build and trying it out, it’s just so game changing that you literally must build around it right now, then… shrug

Sure, that was my problem and the reason why D3 never even felt like an aRPG to me. But the devs went ahead and solved it for me. Thanks devs, great decision.

Also, why not just allow everyone to switch classes freely? It’s a choice someone made to feel invested into their character, but since those are merely arbitrary restrictions, might as well lift them as well. That way, nobody ever has any reason to level a new character, just like you guys seem to want.

You can’t really expect people to invest 150 hours just to play another class. People will leave in droves if you don’t let people switch classes, I garantuee it.

People are too damaged by the WoW mentality of having to change builds for every little single thing. You dont need it in diablo.

Final Fantasy 14 wants to say hello.

Also, I don’t want anything, I just find the people making arguments as to why these restrictions are benefitial to be fools making very foolish arguments.

Sorry, you don’t get to redefine the English language, no matter how much it fits your narrative.

Pain does not mean “hard” as you state.
Pain precisely means to make suffer or cause distress to : hurt

Good. Because your posts here contains nothing of substance and everyone can see it.

Weird response to be honest. Funny how every time I see someone say “fetishizing” d2 they are the only ones talking about diablo 2. Have a great day.

They recanted that a long time ago big guy. If youre going to whine, keep up with things.

I literally do not care about what the content is I just want to play different builds because it’s fun. The only alteration I would make outside of because fun is if I’m in a group I wouldn’t want to play a build that makes it unfun for other group members or myself.

Lol this is the first expac with fully free reapecing on the fly and no real barrier between playing specs outside of general gear. Shockingly there is an incredibly low amount of player bleed compared to basically the last 4

No you want to invest in your build and you can do that quite freely there is zero reason for me to need to be annoyed because of your need for a shock collar. This is like the anti war mode people who can’t stand that people can completely opt out.

They didn’t - this was they’re latest clarification - not the initial one lol. This was after the initial clarification. You don’t pay attention, and calling people “big guy” isn’t conducive to anything other than making you seem odd. PS - I’m not whining - I’m simply sharing my thoughts in a manner conducive to furthering the discussion.

If you guys can’t have fun in a game with respec costs, why are you not refunding the game?, seems silly to me buy an expensive game that you will not enjoy. Come back in a few years and maybe they changed their stance on respec costs. :beers:

Who said we can’t have fun in a game with respec costs?

This is the issue arguing with people on the internet - people just make up stuff. Just because a certain aspect may lessen the fun - doesn’t mean we don’t still fully intend to have fun. The argument is for more fun.
