Resistances are useless

Video with some math from Kripparrian:

The TL:DR is that resistances are either currently bugged or designed so poorly that the do basically nothing to enhance the defense of your character.

This means that the two classes that get the most resistances baked into their primary stat and paragon board – sorcerer and necromancer – are at a colossal disadvantage with regard to survivability, particularly in higher-level nightmare dungeons. It’s perhaps no coincidence that the theory crafting community doing the highest-level content in this game consider necro and sorc to be the two worst classes.

Personally, I feel stupid for wasting time leveling a necro in its current state. Resistances, which it has heavily in its paragon boards, are either bugged or intentionally designed to be useless, and the class has a number of other elements that are ostensibly bugged and aren’t being fixed. I’ll come back later and see if anything is different for season 1.

they should look into it, its very broken for none str class having to put resist on their paragon board which has no practical use vs armor

Then go do that instead of whining about him.

It’s worth watching. I’m sure a lot of people have been confused about the spell “resistances” on gear. It sounds like it’s as bad as I assumed it would be.

Blizz are a joke of a company. Soulless shell of their former selves. Imagine owning ip’s like diablo and warcraft and screwing them up so bad that they are now considered garbage.

Great video by a great player.

Thats the same dude that made a vid about how bad druid is.

A good thing to point this out, so Blizzard can fix it with a future patch. And I am pretty sure, they will fix this, one way or another.

If this is true, epic bug fail

Would explain why my Sorc seems way squishier then one would expect.

Nah i watched his video and he’s actually wrong. The math he used should be obvious to a high school graduate where he’s gone wrong and he omits the world tier 4 resist calculations entirely. HE IS CORRECT however that other rolls are more impactful and well it’s an arpg so dmg and cooldown is always going to be better stats.

It doesn’t matter if you like him or not, the resistances are bugged/broke. They’re basically doing nothing. Not by normal math that a few have looked at or by practical in-game monitoring.

Resistances works fine for me and much very useful, i dont know why this guy is explaining stuff how resistances are useless?

Theyre not working as they should.

Unless Blizz have designed a new mathematical theory. Some are claiming under different math they use it works fine but I tested it using poison resistance and between like 40 resist and 10 there was negligible difference.

Yes I was that guy who spent hours tonight doing this lol.

Resistances on gear are useless in his case because he stacked the hell out of int and res in his paragon build so he’s in diminishing returns sooner. In general though resistance is weaker than other defensive stats if you have the choice. Weaker doesn’t mean useless for every class/build though.

He did but I tried to roll it using enchanting, a lot of Fiend Roses and hours of helltides later, I balanced a normal build but having a slight lenience to poison resist - the difference between 40% and 10% was tiny.

Except he’s not wrong and you can verify it yourself with your own character.

He omits the WT4 resist penalty because it’s quite literally irrelevant to the conversation. WT4 just takes 40% of your resists away. That doesn’t change anything, because you can go test this on WT2 and verify what he says is true.

You don’t even know what you’re talking about, just mindlessly rambling because you don’t like him for some odd reason.

Do feel free to explain how his math is wrong, though. Should be entertaining if you bother to respond.

It’s completely relevant because he was entering the values into his spread sheet during the video showing you the rate of change while his game was logged in to world tier 4. He even overlays the spreadsheet showing the exact same value as he’s demonstrating on his character sheet at the same time.

I shouldn’t have to explain that if you watched his video you can see the error.

Also I’m logged in to world teir 3 right now and have 100% resistance. The only way this is possible is because the entire formula treats the upper limit as an inclusion of world tier 4. When I switch to world tier 4 my resistance drops to 54%.

You’re like the 5th person to post this video.

It’s a lil silly. We knew in the first beta test that Resistances have diminishing returns yet Kripp decided to stack resists anyways to complain about it for some reason.

He then tries to link this to Necro / Sorc being the weakest by comparing armor stacking which is nonsense. 90% of defenses are available to all classes. At extra 500 armor doesn’t compare to 20% flat DR.
