Hi,
I am currently lvl 74, playing Firewall DoT, doing some ND at around 21. All my items are either Legendary Ancestral or Unique, but I am wondering how do I get better defensive stats? I know in D3, an Intelligent class such as Wizards and Witch Doctor don’t really need Int from other sources because their main stat gives them the base damage reduction. Does that apply the same for D4? Or does every class needs Elemental Resistance? I am about 40~50% across the resistance, but I am stacking up on Armor whenever I can. In the end game of D3, you would actually stack (in this case Str, not Dex) Strength to boost your survivability since D4 says Strength is Armor to the point its even more important than Int if you play Meta Group. Just curious to see if I am on the right track, to me it seems I should still stack Int but follow by Str, Willpower then last is Dex.
Thanks
Elemental resists are mathematically useless in this current game.
Rough math but:
If you had 100% Lightning Resist as a stat, you’d only have a max 50% damage reduction due to how it works from armor. Resists are split 50/50 with armor. Then it gets reduced again by another 50% due to being in WT4. This means that the maximum potential resist is 25%. But you’ll never, ever reach that point.
Most of the time, you’d get like ~5% damage reduction max with resist stacking. While other defensives stats give you around 15-30%.

Get the aspect of disobedience for armor, and use armor in rings/amulet. Right now resistences are useless but we don’t know how it will work in the future, devs already said they are working on making resistences better. Oh, and remember that helmet can have a % stat for armor.
Also, if you have plenty of gold, try other builds (specially the most used ones, arc slash or ice blades). I can facetank butcher for a while with my armor and ice armor/flame shield.
Yeah, they’ll fix the resistances… before season 2 = RIP Game. They need to get their priorities straight.
i did the Elias Boss yesterday to unlock WT4.
It was really funny to get oneshotted by stuff from him. the complete dungeon was easy.
My frost sorc was lvl 69. 4600 armor with flask and 3 armor gems (amulett and both rings ).
other all life gems. with about ~5200 life. i tried to reroll stats to armor and spend over 5 Million gold … no luck.
all my items were full upgraded. my damage isnt bad but one wrong step and i was dead when i didnt have barrier up.
i removed glass canon so i survied attacks with maybe 5%. but if anything else hit me i died.
i killed him after ( i think ) 15-20 tries. then i checked other videos on yt from other classes. some of them lvl 62 and they just facetanked the boss. oO
Resists don’t work. You need 1000 reists (combined) to gain 10% DR. Compared to that 10%DR for armor is between 500-800.
Start using these affixes on your chest and legs
- Armor
- Damage Reduction
- Damage reduction Close
- Damage Reduction Distant
- Health
- Ruby Socket Armor for health - This also drives your barriers, and you want lots of non overlapping barriers.
- (I haven’t played with it, but protection while injured has a steep increase which may help when you are CC’d in a dot pool. )
Helm
General
- Put aspect of the protector on your amulet if you haven’t.
- Put skulls in your Jewelry for more armor
- Focus on Armor, but don’t neglect Resistance. Don’t use any affixes for resistance, but get the first all resist in the first board of paragon because it has health there too. The reason I say it might be worth it is that if it is correct that mobs get ‘penetration’ the higher level they are than you then it may change the point of DR on resistance (cannot confirm). You’re going to want to run high level NM’s so your mobs are going to be a lot higher than you. So if that is the case the second paragon All resist might be worth it as well.
While it takes a lot of resistance to equate to reduction, the same is true for Armor. Only half of your armor value will factor into any ‘magic’ damage reduction. Armor is nice at being a ‘catch all’ for damage types.
