Reporting Spam Bots

Everytime I report an RMT spam bot I get the thank you in game message from blizz. Do you think anything is actually done with our report as we see the exact same messages posted over and over again.

Do they actually take action in after the reporting side?

well, of course we cant know for sure, but id assume that they do get sanctioned.

however, its not like it really changes as whole lot. theyll just come back anyway. Its not like its a single dude sitting on his computer spamming these ^^

Yeah, at first I was pleased that there was a response, but I had to end up just leaving trade chat, because every time I reported some spam, I’d just get spammed back again with notifications.

It’d be great to just get one message so we can at least pretend to ourselves that something is being done, but constant notifications are just mental.

i wonder if it matters which region you play from. so far i only saw a handful myself really.

can show you later lazy if you are on

I agree the message from blizz was a good feeling but I see the spam messages more and more amd I report every one.

It would just be nice knowing it actually did something. I mean we all knew this was coming as soon as they announced open trading. I could just see the gold farmers salivating

Im not able to block them. Always get an error. I did report some dude for tos issues and they took action very quickly thou.

Did they? Or maybe it autoblocks them in the background already for your account? I know in D2 there is a limit on the amount of ppl you could block so I gave up back then.

In todays age it should be easy to auto ban with scan filters within the chat. They have a live service after all.

Is there a way to flush my block list from d3 in d4? Cause it must have carried it over. Cause I haven’t been able to block ppl here. Ill try logging into d3 and doing it there later i guess.

I cant really speak to D3 i can only say that for D2 because I hit that limit. That was however before battlenet.

Id assume D3 would tie into the global bnet lists. So if there is a global cap that could be why. Im super curious now… do you mind removing blocked ppl in D3 and try blocking in D4 to see if you still have the message?

I will when i get home

What Ive heard is they do ban waves as they are more disruptive to the RMT operation.

These RMT people have dozens and dozens of accounts. If you ban one it doesn’t really impact them as they still have the rest. It also gives them time to change how they do things with the other accounts. But if you wait and ban them all at once it means they’re stopped dead and have to buy all new accounts again which is expensive to do. That’s why you keep seeing the spam and then bam one day it all stops for a while.

Probably split between multiple accounts, these spammer bots have lots of money and will just keep creating new accounts and buying the game over and over if one gets closed two more take its place. It’s a vicious cycle.

Thor on youtube talks about Blizzard’s ban practices, apparently they wait for 3-6 months and then do a ban wave because its harder for the bots to figure out how they were detected or something. He used to work at Blizzard but I assume it hasn’t changed. Its not instant, that’s for sure.

I can see this but at the same time everything is scripted. They could just make the posts invisible based off specific conditions.

Yes but at the same time if it was a priority maybe if enough ppl complain they will actually do something about it. Ppl complain about the most insignificant things here except for the things that matter.

I shouldnt have to disable trade chat.

This is such a great idea I don’t know why they don’t do this. Just shadowban, let the messages show up for them but not others. I wonder if they were running multiple accounts if they would notice though.

Every thank you is from a bot. Blizzard fired all GM’s and CS workers.

It doesn’t auto-block. You can see repeated messages in chat even after you report them. The message you get in your social pane isn’t entirely automated though. I had reported two in the wee morning hours before Blizzad’s CS team comes into their offices (Austin, TX is the primary CS location, so +2 hours ahead of PDT) and I didn’t get a response message for several hours whereas reports I put in during normal operating hours resulted in response messages in less than five minutes. The message itself is boilerplate, but is triggered by a human reviewing the report ticket, which is why the response times vary so widely.

Block lists are system-wide. They’re at the Battle.net level and transfer between games. The same block list works in all games that are on the modern Battle.net platform.

Edit: The reason for the errors upon trying to block are due to the account not being online. For some reason D4 requires that the account be online at the time of the block. Not efficient or effective to say the least. It’d be nice if one could access their global block list via the Battle.net account preferences, as that makes the most sense as a place to view when not in a game.

I remember when WoW SL was released,i spam reported dude who was botting every time i saw him. I finally got their ‘‘thank you,its been dealt with’’ (cant remember the exact words) in game via mailbox. Anyway…impression was given they actually did something about it,just to see same guy later that day and until last day of SL,doing the exact same stuff he did first time i saw him.

I was thinking…
Is kinda crazy that someone burns an account worth 60$ just to spam **** in a place no one wants to see.

And yeah, I know that those messages may be from hacked accounts, but still… 60$ account to spam in an already limited chat.
For me, looks dumb. They can’t be getting that back in people falling for the “offers”.

You’d be surprised how much of a lucrative business bots are. The amount of money spent on buying a few extra licenses is pennies compared to all the money they make through all the games they have their hands in.
