Renown, multiple characters

I have a 60 druid, 62 sorc, 72 necro, and a 78 barb. It took me this long to find what I enjoy playing.

Why are we punished so hard when we swap mains when it comes to renown? I get that we get the bottom rewards but the progress is reset for every characters. I have lord knows how many hours into the game and I still don’t have all the renown.

The way to earn renown is too specific and anti fun. I don’t want to grind on my first character I like the least, doing the content I like the least, for power I should have earned by now given how many times I have leveled and grinded through the game.

I just don’t understand how 10 years of development could spit out such bad systems.

Renown progress should be account-wide, but comments like this are just dumb. Do you think they created all the game systems 10 years ago then spent 10 years polishing them? Things change over the course of development. They adjust balance of one thing and it throws off another.

Maybe renown used to have more sources, maybe NM dungeons or grim favors or world events used to contribute and it was so easy to complete that they decided to remove all repeatable sources. Maybe the total renown available used to 20% more and it was too easy to rush through it, but after they nerfed it they didn’t consider how people would feel if they got sick of a character after earning 4 levels in each zone and started an alt and never wanted to back to the old character to complete renown.

Most likely, their idea has been that these bonuses are nice to have when you get them, not some essential tasks that must be performed as soon as possible.

I just don’t understand how 9 months of gestation could spit out such bad takes.

All those high levels and your complaining about renown? Yikes… you have alot more time then most people do…

It’s funny you think a version where all the systems are designed with intention by professionals and extensively tested before charging millions of people $100 dollars for a game is so far fetched. We should give Blizzard a pass on the numerous flawed systems because the professional game studio’s couldn’t quite what exactly? Hire good system designers, product managers and testers?

You know what… let’s get rid of Renown completely. Every character has to work for themselves without the aid of other character on the same server.

Do you ever get tired shilling for Blizzard?

Because ARPGs have A LOT of old systems that haven’t really evolved the way the broader gaming industry has.

Lost ark did the best job at evolving isometric action combat. A lot of d4’s systems emulate or outright copy Lost Ark.

Not when the retorts are tee’d up this well for me, no.

They sure as hell didn’t copy the mount controls

Renown is worthless and has no real point in the game other than to be “another thing” to do, fun or not.

Sure, than maybe not hide 20 Paragon points at the end of it.

That is their reasoning for doing it, yes. Doesn’t make it good, it makes it required. Required=/=Fun.

For some reason I rolled an alt the other day but quickly lost interest and hopped back on my necro. Was a melee rogue, I dunno I’m kind of glad it didn’t work out… If I started over now (necro is 37) I might have burnt out before getting either character to “the end.”

I reroll so much in wow (and have been rerolling serially for all 16 years I’ve played) as a result some things like rep (which they now call renown as well) just never get finished and I had to learn to play around it. I don’t think I’ll make that mistake in this game though, as necro is an order of magnitude more appealing to me than the other four.

Patiently waiting for a paladin/monk/templar though. That’s what I really wanted but necro will have to do for now. So far renown in this game isn’t as frustrating as it is in wow, but that’s probably because the game is new to me so I’m not fundamentally bored by basic activities like questing.

WoW hasn’t really had an expansion I cared for in a very long time. I’m glad this came along to give me an excuse to give something else a try. It may not be perfect but I think it can only really go up from here whereas wow crested many years ago.

They are designed with intention. What’s funny is that you think every possible use case of a complex game like this can be tested by the QA team of even a massive studio. I’m sure there were a lot of things on their testing list ahead of, “what if we kept making alts, ignoring renown on all of them, and don’t want to split the regions up between them to collect the renown? Is renown still balanced in that case?”

I’m old enough to remember diablo retail usa-1, with pks and pkks being what d1 was about. I’ve been a fan of Blizzard games practically my whole life. I have purchased and played just about every title they’ve ever put out, and somehow I am still constantly surprised how ready and enthusiastic people like you are to excuse this multi-billion dollar company for anything.

Please. Try working for a game company for even 1 year, then go back and read your post and see how entitled you sound.

There’s a thing in the game you don’t like. Your feedback is helpful so they can fix it. They are working constantly to fix things and to figure out which are the most important to fix. Comments like “10 years of development gave us this” are nonsensical, unhelpful whining. Instead, just provide your feedback like a big kid. “X makes me feel Y.” Your feedback was reasonable and I agree with it. Your recriminations and assumption that somehow a released game can be perfect for all users needs to be called out.
