e: removing this post, may need to poke about this more or less.

DLSS is supported on 3000 series cards.

DLSS seems to work great with my 2060. What’s the difference between DLSS and DLSS frame generation?

bro chill… delete this now…

DLSS is where the game is rendered at a lower resolution, then it upscales. Essentially more FPS with very little reduction in quality (depending on setting and game).

Frame Generation (but also known as DLSS 3) is where it works out what the next frame will be, before it’s needed. If done right, it can almost double the frame rates with little reduction in quality. I have it enabled but can’t notice any graphical issues.

in my case frame gen is not working at all on 4090. 4k ultra 225 fps. dlss quality fgen off 300. dlss quality fgen on 200. I don’t know what’s going on. not that I need it, but still.

So, it’s kind of like interpolation applied to DLSS?

I don’t really understand the tech behind it. I think I read it uses AI to build the next frame, based on the current frame. It somehow works out what it will be. I think it inserts these extra frames inbetween the real ones.
So, 1st frame real, 2nd is frame gen, 3rd real etc.

Interesting find; what kind of performance gains did you experience? I’m curious because the amount of OFA cores / tensor cores on the 30 compared to the 40 series is a big jump, and it was my understanding those were necessary for the frame generation to work nicely

There’s nothing to read. There’s an option in the game for my 3070ti for DLSS. You don’t need to go to the config files.

I don’t see how Frame Generation helps unless you just have an underperforming card. It’s extra load on the card by way of AI processes. At least DLSS 1 and 2 have the benefits of making lower quality images look better.

Frame generation is just Nvidia’s version of motion interpolation. The frames are fake and increase input lag the way enabling motion interpolation does on a TV but it can make motion look smoother. If you enable frame generation in D4 it also forces you to enable Nvidia Reflex, I guess to compensate for the increased input lag.

so many people missing the point in this thread. It’s not enabling DLSS, it’s enabling Frame generation (though of the same tech) And yes the option is there for everybody, but can’t be ticked unless you’re using a 4.0 card. OP’s instruction bypasses this.

now if that actually does anything good or bad idk, settings are fine for me atm, good luck.

Just because you put a 1 in the text file doesn’t mean it’s on. If the driver and hardware don’t support it (20/30 series doesn’t), it still won’t be on at the driver or hardware level.

This is for the Frame Generation feature of DLSS which is disabled in Diablo IV for non-40 series cards.
https://nvidianews.nvidia.com/news/nvidia-introduces-dlss-3-with-breakthrough-ai-powered-frame-generation-for-up-to-4x-performance

It can be enabled, the only issue with running Frame Gen on a 20/30 series is performance may be lower.

However I’ve been running DIV at 4k no issues with Frame Gen on my 3080. The difference with vs without is immediately noticeable.

Same issue on my 4070ti. Worse frame rate with DLSS3 Frame Generation turned on. I just have it turned off until they fix it.

If you use framegenerator (dlss3), please note the following:

  • disable all frame limiters, be it in diablo4 or in programs like rtss.

  • enable vsync in the nvidia settings global settings. (if you have specifically for diablo4, then there)

  • if you have less fps than with dlss3, do a task switch to the desktop and back (this helped me).

All you did was enable DLSS 3 Super Resolution. DLSS 3 works on all gens but Frame Generation is tied to hardware. Frame generation doesn’t work on anything but 4000 series, the other cards don’t have the hardware and it won’t be enabled at the driver level either. Research it for yourself. nVidia themselves even said this. Your 1 in the text file did nothing. Sorry.
