I’m not the kind of person that’s drawn to spend money easily. I’m quite the opposite. The shenanigans with reliquaries, all this locking, the clear incentives to spend more money platinum to unlock things, bonus unlockables, premium crap, etc., makes me want to just literally ignore the Reliquaries tab altogether. At this point I literally want to just delete it from the UI so I don’t have to interact with it.
The fact that you only get 200 platinum in the free tiers means you need more seasons than the game has already had before you can get anything worthwhile. You also get nothing of real value in the other reliquary tabs (which only even have anything available in them so you can view it and get FOMO). Clicking on the Beasts tab gives away a free… weapon? You can’t even unlock a full gear set like you could in past seasons. This is the biggest rip-off in the entire Reliquary concept.
The bonus is an item transmog, which is clearly there to make some people want to finish the set if they’re prone to compulsive or obsessive behavior. You’re also going to finish a season with way more favor tokens than you need to complete the free tier, which again ties into obsessive or compulsive behavior. The 99 cap is because they know you’ll wind up with way more tokens than you need if you only do the free stuff and you’ll simply be wasting them in future seasons.
Use your imagination on the point of the “event” reliquaries. You bet your bum they’ll have one free thing in them as well.
It reminds me of mobile spending psychology and I just… I HATE it. I can see all the dirty psychological tricks that are so very common on mobile. I’m so very glad now that I spent my free premium battlepass unlock last season because I could at least complete a set. I wouldn’t be able to do that this season. I would feel so ripped off (unless it translated into 3 free unlocks).
I can’t tell you why my reaction to this is so viscerally negative. It just is. The amount of curses I want to put in this post is unreal. It’s just lucky the forums won’t let you post with bad words, or that the post might get deleted if I tried to bypass the filters. I’m sure you can figure out where they would go.
The fact that the reliquary button on the UI permanently has that stupid “!” on it just enrages me more.
