Reinstall getting stuck at 38%

As per the title, I unstalled and tried doin a fresh install. The install hangs at 38% every attempt. How do I fix this?

Try some of these suggestions:

Thanks, that was generally helpful, and I changed some settings. Now, do you know how to stop the lurching while running around, Iā€™d be even more grateful. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and that didnā€™t help. I also turned off all extra apps to no avail. I have a 600mbit hardwired line, so itā€™s not a latency issue. Itā€™s only this game, too.

ctrl+r results while playing: FPS 60, Latency 89ms

Lurchingā€¦ Like it pauses a moment when changing zones (areas)?

Might be Direct Storage affecting you here. Easy enough to adjust. Use these steps from this post:

No. Like while running. I can run around the middle of town and ā€œlurchā€ while running. Like ruuun-lurch-ruuun-lurchā€¦

Still. Try that first.

Okay. Done and rebooted the game. No effect.

Get me a copy of your FenrisDebug file, the most recent one. You can find it in the game installation folder.

Use pastebin.com to share it here. Open the Fenris file and copy the contents and paste it on Pastebin, create a paste then you can copy the resulting URL and paste it here.

Assuming I did it correctly, this should get you there, minus the spacesā€¦

pastebin . com / nAQpqZ7S

Future tip. Anytime you post a URL if it wonā€™t let you post it, then highlight the URL in question and click the </> button to render it unclickable and it will let you post it.

Let me review it.

No problem. I appreciate you helping me. I know youā€™re time is valuable.

Okay.

This is lower than I like to see on an SSD drive. Usually I recommend keeping a drive no more than 66% full. Yours is nearly 90%. When the drive is this full, it makes it work harder with the wear leveling features and can actually speed up the wear on the drive as a result.

It might be impacting your performance a tad, but just wanted to mention it.

You appear to have more than enough RAM and virtual memory set.

The funny part about this, is that you donā€™t even have an RTX card. However you may want to enable GPU scheduling anyway. The game likes having that feature enabled. But make sure you arenā€™t trying to use any DLSS if its allowing you to choose it. It has messages like its trying to, but canā€™t. Which it shouldnā€™t be able to with a 1080 Ti.

GPU scheduling is enabled in your Windows settings under the Settings ā†’ Display ā†’ Graphics ā†’ Default Graphic Settings.

This is a big Ooof. This shows the monitor is running at 30hz! That means anything over 30FPS is going to run weird as its dropping frames, and this might be the direct culprit of your issues here.

If possible, see if you can set the refresh rate of the monitor to at least 60hz. Then set an FPS cap of 60 in-game to start with and see what that does.

Another possible issue is the driver version, but unless we clear up a few other things first, I would save this for last. But the fix here is to go back to version 561.09 and not run their geforce experience software.

Iā€™m also going to recommend that you donā€™t have the high res packs installed. Those are designed for 4K use, and since you are essentially running at 1K with the 1080p, you can free up some space and ease up the load for the game at the same time. You can remove those with Battlenet App, exit the game, go to the gear cog, click Modify install, and then uncheck the high resolution assets.

See what some of this does for you.

Well, I have a few issues now. First, I canā€™t free up much more space. Itā€™s about 3/4 full after deleting a few things. But thatā€™s as far as I can go. I may need a bigger SSD. Second, when opening Settings, I have no Display option. I have System, Devices, Mobile Devices, and so on. Third, itā€™s not a monitor but a smart tv. Itā€™s always 60.

Thoughts?

Its a bit different with Windows 10 my bad.

Settings (Control panel gear) ā†’ System ā†’ Display ā†’ Graphics Settings (may need to scroll down a bit).

Yes, but if you have installed the high res packs, you can remove those and free up some space which can help.

But the game is trying to run at 30, so its not set to 60 in Windows. It also might be set to an interlaced mode which may change how it appears as well.

Point is, you need to cap the FPS to a number = to or less than what the monitor refresh is for this game for best results.

Not to mention your quality settings:

Medium settings for most should be good, disable Distortion, & Chromatic Aberration as well. Enable the checkbox for Low FX as well.

Okay, I found the harware acceleration thing and turned it on. I also changed it from 60 interlaced to just 60, explicitly. I tested it and saw no change, so I checked the new file, and it still says loading in 30hz mode. I havenā€™t tried removing the Hi-Res packs yet, but am about to. Iā€™d rather not have to, though.

You arenā€™t benefiting from them. But its up to you.

Alright, I modified the install and got rid of the HR assets and also deinstalled FFXIV (not playing it anyway). The SSD is now at 50% abnd the game runs smooth now. Iā€™m seriously considering a total purge and reinstalling windows, the drivers, and just the game. Itā€™s been two years now and I have a lot of junk. I also may need a new GPU and a real monitor. Itā€™s set to 60hz explicitly, but still comes across as 30.

Thanks for the assist!

Glad it helped! Good luck!

Spoke too soon. I may not be able to continue playing. I did a complete fresh install of windows, installed the updates and drivers, then battlenet and d4. The SSD is now somewhere between 5-10 percent full. I tried the adjustments from earlier as well, but no luck. Itā€™s ā€œbetter,ā€ but itā€™s still laggy. Sadly, I cannot afford a new system, or even a part of one. Iā€™m retired.

Sigh.
