The 4 we have now are very few affixes, reduction to 3 is stupid. Reduction rare items to two affixes make them in 100% useless. You might as well remove them from the game and give drop of materials.
What happens to my current gear? How do they decide which affixes they’re gonna remove from my already built character?
They haven’t mentioned that yet.
it isnt though because you can temper 2 affixes on to them so you actually can get up to 5 affixes then. so no not stupid.
Legacy items probably (D3 pre-RoS did this too)
I feel like they skipped over explaining what would happen to current gear in that regard. I don’t even think they realize it.
You actually end up with MORE affixes after using the Tempering System, and they are more useful ones, not just “damage on tuesday if you dance right”.
Usually you need to find the new items. Old gear is not changed retroactively.
You say that but when Season 2 started gear was changed retroactively. Then UBERS were changed retroactively, and not even properly. Remember the Melted Heart of Selig fiasco that was still never fixed?
We shall have to see then. They have not said what they plan with old gear yet. I know what they have done in the past with major system changes, but I don’t know what is planned for THIS one.
I write this after they show this system. However, rare items should still have the same number of affixes as legendary ones.
I realize I’m going to re-create my character, but I need to know if this is going to BREAK my character until I’ve found replacements. Farming can take forever, even with a new system.
Um, I think the point of different item types is that they can have a different number of affixes, and the range of the affix is higher.
White items
Blue
Yellow
Legendary
Unique
Each is supposed to have more and better affixes/options. If a Rare was exactly the same as a Legendary there would be no point in having two different types.
Now it makes no sense for white and blue items to exist. After this change, it will make no sense for the rare ones to exist as well.
You wear a rare until you find better. That is the point of them.
Oh it does make sense though!
You get a rare item with really good solid affixes you like. Well rolled even. Then you can use your Codex to add a Legendary power. That crafts it into a Legendary. Then you can keep crafting! Add up to 2 affixes via Tempering and then use Masterwork to buff the whole thing further.
So, a good rare is the base for your item progression unless you get a great drop of a Leg outright.
I think with what I’ve seen we are heading towards true Blizzard legendary quality in design. I’m pretty excited to say the least, and keep in mind we haven’t even seen the expansion yet.
In comparison, in the last epoch, I can have the maximum number of affixes(5) on a white item thanks to crafting. A good white or blue item can be useful in the endgame, although there is little chance of that. In diablo 4 currently nothing below rare has any value, after this change nothing below legendary will not have any value in endgame.
Called it!
1 2 3 4 5
Due to the amount of itemization changes, it’s just easier (and much, much safer) to mark everything already existing as “Legacy” as they’re doing and leaving them as they are. This has the added effect of actually enticing players to hunt for newer items even on the Eternal realm.
As for the number of affixes on an item being reduced, as it is now the affix pool is…diluted. That said, one place they’re going to have to buff the overall affix range is resistances, as we’ll have fewer realistic opportunities to get this on gear with one innate affix less per gear level/type. I guess we’ll see how it pans out on the PTR.
For those that may have missed one of the more salient points regarding this system, only Ancestral items that are of legendary status can get two tempering affixes put on them. Sacred items can only get one tempering affix.
