So I’m getting ready to go for my 5th attempt at Ashava at midnight PST here. It’s been a long, frustrating day of failed attempts and I’m heavily demoralized.
Title says it all: I’m playing Necro and I’ve figured out that my minions are useless. I tried going for a Hemorrhage + Bone Spear focused build and sacrificed my skeletons, but I still feel like I have zero mobility and I’m often caught in the path of attacks even though I try to dodge them. Meanwhile I feel like I’m not contributing any damage because I run out of essence so quickly.
I don’t have the time to level another class to 20 before server slam is over, so I’m hoping I can kill Ashava as my Necro.
Can anyone recommend me a build so I don’t feel as much like complete dead weight?
i would suggest go for bone splinters and bone spear to help keeping ashava vulnerable. Its a team effort so the longer she is vulnerable the more dmg other people would deal.
Blood mist as a defense, but dont rely on it since the best defence is avoid the big hits. Run to her back and keep pummeling
Is worth the look over. It goes over some easy to follow builds that give you good defenses while still providing valuable buffs and solid single target dps.
This is a very helpful answer. Thank you for offering such a constructive reply.
I have Googled Necro builds for Ashava server slam, and almost all of them pointed toward minions. However, I believe that many of these were written based on the information from the March beta testing, when minions were much stronger. I don’t think anyone expected them to gut minion HP this much.
So I’m asking on the forums to try and see if anyone has any alternate builds. I am trying to find a solution to my problem instead of bemoaning my circumstances, and snarky replies are not helping anyone.
Ah, so you have google but you dont know how to use it.
For me none of them pointed towards minions, all towards bonespear.
But i set it to “last week” because i didnt want to find old info.
Update: at the midnight PST lockout, my group managed to kill Ashava.
For the purpose of providing some feedback, I have to say, the entire process of killing this boss was not fun. Trying to position with such a massive target on your screen is clunky—half the time I would end up clicking the boss, my character would stand in place using an ability, and I’d die to one its swipe or bite mechanics. The cooldown on dodge sometimes prevented me from avoiding multiple abilities if they happened back to back, i.e. if I dodged out of a bite and then into a slam. It could be that my class is aggravating these issues, but if this is going to be the experience on boss fights for a Necromancer, then my enthusiasm for buying and playing the game is severely dampened.
I’m no slouch when it comes to gaming; I’ve cleared mythic tiers in WoW and savage tiers in FFXIV. I’d like to think I’m capable of learning and executing mechanics properly. But the clunky combat combined with the seemingly pointless and arbitrary 15 minute timer made this experience overall stressful rather than enjoyable. Even worse, it’s only available for two days, and on a 3-hour respawn timer.
I am sure I’ll be flamed for this post, or that at least one person will chime in telling me I just need to “git gud”. And if that does happen here, as I’ve seen it happening in other forum threads, I suppose it’s an indication of the kind of mentality that Blizzard creates when they implement such inaccessible “challenges” that some of the playerbase has better luck with than others: in other words, training people to indulge their worst impulses by flaming others. I am sure there’d be a lot less frustration if the world boss didn’t despawn until killed; the decision to implement such a restrictive timer is truly baffling.
I’m not sure why it would be a problem to let more people enjoy the cosmetic. Isn’t it enough that it’s only available for two days? Do you really need to gatekeep it even further? All that seems to do is make it even sweeter for the “git gud” crowd, and even more demoralizing for those who aren’t able to happen into a good group or who have trouble with the clunky nature of world boss combat in a click-to-move ARPG.
Anyway, those are my thoughts. At this point, I’m really unsure as to whether I want to spend the money on D4 anymore.
The game’s not even released yet and already people have to google someone else’s build to figure out how to play it. I weep for this generation of “gamers.”
The first time I prepped, I was going “okay let’s take some minions”. Then minions die in 1 swipe by the boss, literally. Made me almost useless for the entire fight.
In the end because I had this one legendary for blood lance, I just went all in blood lance, minion-less and did what I could. It wasn’t satisfying, although managed to take the boss very close to the timer countdown with a random group (and some mates).
2nd run was better, (like I said, we did it near to the timer’s countdown), but that’s it. I don’t want to go for it again.
