Reason why Diablo 4 sucks now and how to improve the experience

It’s the first time I make a post like this. Since launch I belong to the people that played the game and tried to see the good in it, I did not just complain about it and compare it with other games just to do so.

But man, after playing this season, I can tell you that these complaints are 100% justified.

This season playing this game has been one of the most boring and repeatitive experiences of my life. The season mechanic is boring and you lose interest to it in the first 2 days and all this ends being is another endless Duriel loop farm.

The hunt of uber uniques which btw the latest patch did not improve, it just made it so players who play 15 hours per day can craft one uber of their choice, just makes the game experience extremely boring and frustrating.

Nightmare dungeons are almost irrelevant, you just end up farming Helltides and then Duriels and the whole thing is repeatitive and boring. And of course RNG will just decide for you and you can possible waste hours of farming without progress as the uber unique system is a joke.

I feel like this is pushing the average diablo 4 player away and the game is losing its playerbase.

So here is what I would suggest to improve the game:

  1. Push the interest away from Duriel to other activities!

I’m honestly sick of the Duriel farm loop. I wanna do other activities. Make Nightmare dungeons more relevant. NM 85+ should have better Uber uniques drop rates compared to Duriel. Make the other bosses, like Ice beast or Zir to have better drops, make them drop uber uniques with smaller chance than Duriel or NM. Introduce better events.

  1. If you are still obsessed with Duriel and dont like the above at least make a patch that helps the average players rather than streamers or players who got lucky. Instead of the 4 uniques into 1 (that is a good change btw you can keep it) introduce a pity timer for Duriel. Each duriel kills drops 1 material item. Roll a random uber unique with 50 of these materials in Alchemist. At least people will feel that their endless Duriel farm is not just a waste of time.

  2. Make better seasonal mechanics to keep the playerbase interested.

This season mechanic is just unbelievably boring. The pet is just dull and Vaults are basically NM with more density. We need something more interesting, new mechanics, new builds, maybe introduce item sets and have special ways to obtain them, and that is another way to move away from the Duriel loop.

I still believe Diablo 4 has a lot of potential and I want the game to succeed but its about time you listen to your playerbase and improve the experience. It feels like you just dont really care about it and this frustrates the playerbase. Now that you have competition from other games (not going to name them, that its not the point) you will keep losing players if you dont wake up.

I’m personally about to quit the season and play something else as I’m sick of being forced to do Duriel all day and nothing else. Please wake up.

TL;DR

  • Seasonal gameplay experience is extremely repetitive and boring
  • Duriel farming is all you’re doing
  • Nightmare dungeons don’t matter thanks to Duriel (there a theme going on here?)
  • Uber unique farming is frustraiting
  • Suggestions for improvement:
    • Make Higher Level NMD have a higher Uber Unique drop rate
    • Improve drops for other bosses like Ice beast or Zir
    • Introduce better events
    • Implement a pity timer for Duriel to benefit casual players
    • Develop more engaging seasonal mechanics with new activities and rewards
  • Emphasize listening to player feedback and improving the overall experience
  • You’ll lose players if you don’t make improvements

Wherever a post drags on explaining the same topic multiple times, I’ll be there.

Wherever there’s a giant wall of text with no space for paragraphs, I’ll be there.

Wherever a poster has longer explanations for their bullet points then their whole topic, I’ll be there.

For in this world there is only so much time we can spend on reading post after post.

Tl;Dr - I will Tl;Dr wherever possible and assuming I catch the post in time

Edit: Sorry for straying away from the topic OP, my bad.

Just a thought , do you track how many hours you play, since i have played way too much and well nowhere near streamer levels, and with no carries and going at my own pace, i have not farmed mats to do duriel runs and my 100 plus gameplay still is sigils to level glyph, WB, HT, Legions, Bosses for mats for duriel, whispers and usually why i am there i will do tunnel boss. The few issues i have with this loop are i could do Side quests and i do enjoy that, but i am so OP there is no contest, HT same thing and mats drops are too grindy, Whispers same thing the open world bounties too easy and grindy.

Nightmares are always fun for me, just not always in the mood to push and without doing so glyph exp is low.

Not sure why you dont like Vaults, aside from the fact that D3ed them and nerfed it into the ground, so yeah they are boring now, but they would be a D3ers dream with the mob density lol, but yes becasue of that i ignore traps and mobs and run to final room.

So its should have been a fun mechanic. it was early on in the season and son of malphas spawned i had traps and it was a good time. Havent seen him in ages now.
I love the pet and using its mechanics so not sure some of its attacks are boring but i enjoy defense turret focus fire ,firefly impale and tempest.

So yeah i don’t know why a season comes out, the people cry and the season is nerfed and everyone leaves anyway, i play it nerfed what can i do, but i am getting tired of this more than “lack of content” “interesting mechanics” i mean if you give the game a change it is interesting, but that takes attention span of more than a few hours.

So That is why i think D4 is in a bit of a mess OP, the community is divided and live service is what they went for and a responded to ofc social media so you know there is a basket case of problems with building a game this way.

Again, this “reflects” at Duriel most obviously but the game is very, very, and extremely “chore”-based

Do this and get that, nothing on the way is worth “stopping” to take a look… Or very rarely something is

Can’t have a game that’s all based on - complete task and don’t care about anything along the way, and slowly grind/progress through the XP bar to 100 - and have people not feel exhausted

The problem isn’t that the “road” is too long to 100, the problem is they make it look like mandatory. THAT is the problem, everyone that “stops” at lvl say 60-70-80, literally feels like they’ve done absolutely nothing

I mean yeah, playing games as an activity itself isn’t much of a “self-appraisal” feedback type, but at least make people not feel “empty” if they don’t want to endlessly “grind”

And even if/when they DO decide to continue - the itemization is just demoralizing

  • Shrine stuff
  • Elite stuff
  • Slowed, Chilled, Immobilized
  • Burning, Bleeding, Poisoned
  • Some higher-tier passive you don’t quite use gets a +1 or 2

And on and on and on, yes, the “frame” changes - NMD, Helltide, but it’s STILL the same experience even if framed/painted differently:

  • Kill stuff quick
  • Don’t stop unless legendary
  • Complete task ASAP to get both - the gold and XP - or get exhausted cause nothing interesting happens on the way

Rince & repeat

TLDR ? - overworld needs to be more often a “hosting” place. Don’t let the player “pick their poison” all the time and then barely make a “tick”. That is bad for morality, really makes players either get “drugged” by the speed or if not then demoralizes (I’d argue makes them hate themselves cause feels like masohistic experience) cause it’s far far FAR faaaar too repetitive

Make the game THROW DIFFICULTY at the player, not have the player “select” it. Otherwise it’s all too masohistic and demoralizes when things don’t go “fast enough” but the optics/expectations are that they “should”
