Re-tool and Respec or make another Sorc? Which is better

I’m wondering it is better to:

  • keep my first Sorc as is with the Incinerate build (already respec’d from chain lightning leveling build)
  • make and level a new Sorc to 50 for Frozen Orb

– or –

  • Respec my first Sorc a second time from Incinerate to Frozen Orb

Here is some background details:

  • I have about 3.3 million gold
  • I dinged 70 early this morning in WT4
  • I’m in chap 4 of the season journey
  • I finally got the Frozen Orbit aspect and I have a lower level Winter glass
  • I’m midway through board #2 with the Incinerate build
  • I suspect that I’m going to hit a hard progress wall with Incinerate as I continue leveling so, a 2nd respec of my first Sorc is potentially coming
  • I’m enjoying Incinerate right now
  • According to Wudijo’s video the end game is going to be very very expensive with crafting (Wudijo’s video ==> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HUGUaBXO00 )

Your thoughts.

Can you elaborate on why take the above approach vs the alternative I included or some other alternative?

I have not leveled any glyphs yet and I haven’t done any NM dungeons yet. I have glyphs dropped in place from an Incinerate leveling build guide on Icy-veins. I think I have another 8-10 points to allocate in the paragon system because I stopped thinking that I may be digging myself a bigger respec bill, which led to making the post. I don’t have any masterwork done. Just tempering, stats re-rolls, some gems, and imprinting of aspects.

I get that the benefits to sticking with the first Sorc comes with:

  • only considering the top end of the item level (925 gear)
  • potentially pre-leveling the glyphs for Frozen Orb before switching
  • building up gold and material reserves for the respec.

Again I have not leveled any glyphs. I have not done any NM dungeons yet. All of the glyphs I’ve acquired dropped in Helltides or dropped from caches, and I don’t think glyphs come in the caches.

Wait… Are you implying that glyphs are bound to each character?.. that would be a real {expletive} design decision.

Glyphs are bound to each character. You won’t gain anything at all by making a new sorcerer. Just run nightmare dungeons to level your glyphs. You’ll also get a ton of gold and xp. If you need gold specifically, completing whispers is the best way to do it.

I did incinerate into 90s, swapped to frozen orb. Lost SOOOO much power so then tried a few different online builds. Yeah… I wound up going back to incinerate and not looking back. My incinerate character hit 100 and has multi-million damage ticks and right now I’m trying to find the RIGHT spot in the pit. I keep doing the next max level available to me but I JUST started so I’m only up to about 34 or something like that.

-I suggest you swap/try frozen orb/conjuration with your current character and decide for yourself. I feel like I gave frozen orb a fair shake but I can do so much more with incinerate. I’m just me though so maybe your experience will be different.

-I only roll a NEW same class character if I am interested in trying something very different than what I did the first time around in the levelling phase as well. You could factor this in as well.

Thank you guys.

@BaalMelqart:
Did you use a guide for your Incinerate and Frozen Orb builds, if yes can you please link them? Thanks. I used LexyU’s Incinerate leveling guide on Icy-veins especially since Maxroll didn’t offer an Incinerate guide. I’m looking over and studying Maxroll’s and LexyU’s Frozen Orb builds. If memory serves me well, Lexy tends to builds a bit more offensively because that is how he likes to play.

@Forum Mods and D4 Devs:
It would be great if we could inspect each other’s characters in a browser. I know D3 has this ability and WoW has some sort of character inspection ability on their website. This really should be pretty easy for company that has been absorbed into the Micro$oft machine.

On another note if you guys are in active clans, please give me a shout. The clan I joined in Season 2 has become inactive. My regular buddies are off playing other games since spring semester ended and they are suffering from an acute aversion to reading D4 patch notes thus they are avoiding D4. So, I’m looking to make new friends to keep the fun going.

The frozen orb builds I tried after failing on my own were… sorry on a different pc but if you google “D4 season 4 maxroll frozen orb” one pops up or the other one: “D4 season 4 frozen orb wudijo”.

The incinerate build I am using: google " D4 season 4 Dracarys incinerate" and it will be the first thing that pops up. I add my own vibe/spin to it but what I do doesn’t seem to affect the DPS much from the base build.

-I have gotten to the point where I do not need a resource aspect (incinerate). I DO have an affix for lucky hit to grant resource but I don’t think I even need that anymore. The frozen orb thing felt like pure annoyance when I switched to it as my character was constantly whining about no mana, even when I added resource aspects/deviated from internet builds.

-I think the most important components of my current incinerate build are:
-Flamethrower aspect on a 2h staff
-Conflagration aspect on amulet
-conceited aspect on any offensive gear piece. Use your cooldown abilities to proc it
-Added soul brand unique chest piece so I can pop potion for another barrier if my cooldown abilities are all down which A:keeps my barrier up for protection and B: keeps the good damage from conceited aspect up.

-I use firewall enchant and ice blades enchant. Ice blades enchant = more chance for cool down reductions plus since I am also hitting cool down abilities to keep barrier up, the more mana-on-cool-down-abilities I use, I am spawning another ice blade or so to put the cycle on repeat. Thanks to soul brand chest, I can just pop potion for another barrier when cool down skills are all down. It’s a neat— tight lil loop.

Thanks again. I found the build guide on Mobalytics. I believe there was a youtube video with “Dracarys incinerate” in the title but I’m unable to find it. The video guide linked in the written guide is outdated.

I like you, will be tweaking my build.

Temerities with life on hit is nice if you have fast hitting skills like hydra/shards, for alternative methods of shielding.

Good details on here ty.

I also could not find a vid for it

Oh I really am pretty amateur. I make the stupidest mistakes sometimes!

I have tried blizzard in the past but not since all the changes. I liked Blizzard but had a hard time sticking with it because I am crazy impatient and I didn’t like the couple of seconds wait time for the damage to really get great.

If I spawn another sorc this season, I’ll probably try some things out with arc lash. There’s an aspect or so that look fun with it. Probably steer it in a conjuration direction. Or might try frozen orb again and keep experimenting. Ahhh decisions!!
