Ray tracing in the future?

Has anyone seen comments from the dev regarding if they’re planning on implementing ray tracing?

They implemented nvidia DLSS the other day, look in options. Came earlier than expected.

not a required feature whatsoever.

Ray tracing is the least of this game’s problems as is the case with 99.99% games.

Considering the recent promotion with the 40 RTX series I’d be surprised if this game didn’t get ray tracing eventually.

Thanks for the replies.

Yep, I know it’s not a required feature but anything that makes the game look even better, is a win in my book.

I have no idea how much work is involved in implementing ray tracing. My very basic understanding is, they have to set where the light sources are and the ray tracing engine takes care of the rest. Am I completely off or is that about right?

Yes two live streams ago they said that Ray Tracing will be implemented shortly after release.

Cool, thanks for the info.

yes it will be cool to see what they do with it.

Clearly you don’t have ray tracing capable systems. Why even post in this thread if ray tracing doesn’t concern you?

Fortunately, Blizzard will be implementing RT in the future. The game is extremely easy to run with capable systems and there’s tons of performance overhead to allow for RT to be added.

If any game needs ray tracing the least it’s Diablo 4.

Ray tracing benefits any game. It’s a lighting upgrade. You really going to sit there and say the visuals of Diablo 4 with it’s moodier/darker atmosphere wouldn’t benefit with ray traced lighting?

I think rt shadows and rtao alongside rtgi would make the game’s moody atmosphere even more pronounced. GOOD ray tracing is hard to find these days though. Maybe 3 or 4 games have it. (Cyberpunk, Metro Exodus, Control, Portal RT, etc…)

Agreed, it’s not always well implemented as a full package like that, and when it isn’t, I think that sadly gives it a bad reputation. When implemented properly it’s a night and day improvement.

ray tracing? lmao throw in the rtx on/off meme here. But sure why not, it would definitively add some spice to the lighting effects in this game.

Yeah, the RT on Cyberpunk was amazing. They’re supposed to be re-doing it as well with various improvements.

Ray tracing?

You mean that tech that gets Darth Vader and his army use to reflect light into your retina’s to death?
Evil stuff…

PLUS no one can be that clean if they’re actually working! :yum:

Blizz already stated that Ray tracing is coming in a future update.

“Dear Blizzard, I would like to double the strain on my system for a barely noticeable 2% increase in visual quality.”

Like, my hardware’s good enough to run two copies of this game with ray tracing simultaneously, but I still think it’s stupid in just about every game.

Eh, lighting is pretty much the most important aspect of making a game look good. Not sure how you wouldn’t notice RT in a game
