Random Crashing with 2.0 - Never Happened Before Update

I never run the in game music either, but turning off all sound helped me.

My game has crashed no less than 5 times today, while in town at the enchanter updating gear, all of the sudden Iā€™m looking at my desktop, not even getting a crash message like I had seen before. Iā€™ve rebooted made sure there were no updates, graphics update was sometime last week but only today Iā€™ve had multiple crashes out of no where.

The game (without high-res textures) is only 68.7 GB in size. By the time it fills your RAM + VRAM + 39 GB of Page Fileā€¦ Well, it has basically loaded the entire friggin game into memory.

Regardless. It is nothing but SHAMEFUL that Blizzard wonā€™t even reply purely to acknowledge the fact that they are aware of the issue and working to solve it.

lol

It certainly looks that way. But donā€™t forget compression of textures being uncompressed and then you have working loads that are generated as you play too.

But yeah, its a damn memory hog and for some reason requires a swap file space, even if you have enough physical RAM.

Someone posted the other day claiming they had 192GB of RAM and still needed a swap file.

o_O

Not good.

This comes from the same people who brought us the neat feature of loading everyoneā€™s stash when you meet someone in town :headstone:

I also made a post about crashing but no one read it i believe. so heres my vote for your post because i am also having constant crashes and theres nothing in tomorrows patch notes about a fix for it. and bliz has not made any official comments about it as far as i have heard ā€¦ but they can mess around with build nerfs and chests

Same.
Good news is PoE2 will be out in less than a month and we can move on from a company who wonā€™t even acknowledge the game and its real problems.

I put some info into bug tracker today after a long investigation i did myself but i noticed that a process called presentmon is causing something odd to happen with this game only and makes the cpu act like its being stress tested. This leads to the game to crash to desktop and if it does this and you try to launch the game with the process acting funky it either leads to crashes that happen very soon or instant to a worse case of PC restarting. If you kill the process and run the game it has 0 issues. Ive tested this on 3 different pcā€™s all using and one thing they all share in common are windows 11 and Nvidia Cards. Id like for others to test this and see if they also see the same problem and get the same results with killing the process. and if they do report it in my post in bug tracker.

Game is still crashing for me every hour or so. I have lost almost every opal I have ever used.

Quick google search.

This is an Intel performance monitoring tool. Maybe its causing some of these issuesā€¦

Going to see if its a required process and something we can shut down. Maybe its interfering with the game.

Looks like its installed with the Intel video drivers, they even talk about it being used with Arc graphics.

View this page, read second post:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/any-way-how-to-stop-presentmon-task-in-windows-11/6ff153e9-d664-4a0f-acce-f0161a84c114

Anyone having issues with their system getting large CPU performance spikes, try shutting down this process and see if it fixes your issue.

Also please inform others to try this fix in case it helps them as well.

My cpu temps are normal, nothing like stress on it.

Yet another after doing a reinstallation.
This time, the Fenris code was: 528ED173-22C5-4A74-8ACB-40B612585CB5.

Just to check anyone having crashing in other games at all? I havenā€™t seen any crashing in HellDivers 2 or Space Marines 2 or Star Wars Outlaws which are games I have been currently playing. Also zero crashes before VoH so I donā€™t get people who are saying itā€™s hardware. Itā€™s a memory leak for sure - theyā€™re just very hard to find and fix

Was experiencing crashes on NVIDIA driver 565.90 after a couple of hours of gameplay. Rolled back to 561.09, and havenā€™t had any crashes so far. Still need to do more testing to confirm stability.

For the umpteenth time, its not a leak.

Its bad memory management. And it can look like a leak if you donā€™t have enough virtual memory.

I have tested the crap out of this, its not a leak. It does stabilize, but if you donā€™t have enough virtual memory, it will cause the system to crash.

Actual leaks will never stabilize and will continue leaking no matter how much physical and virtual memory you have till they are full and crash. The time it takes for that to happen will vary depending on the amount.

And thatā€™s only one problem.

It also has issues with internet connections, and if there is an issue there, it can even cause the game to freeze briefly every time you do something or just disconnect you while teleporting, things like that.

Then there are issues with some people having driver related problems.

And a multitude of others.

But there isnā€™t a ā€œleakā€. I think too many use that word as a generalization without knowing what it means.

Is the game suffering from some bad memory utilization? Absolutely. Is it a buggy mess, too unstable, has to have the system tweaked constantly to keep it running? YES. Is this normal? Hell no!

Anyway.

I have just rolled back to 561.09 Nvidia driver, have 1.5 hours in of playtime - no crashes, also increased virtual mem to 32GB (32,768). it may be the driver or blizzard mem mgt - maybe even both for me.

edit: 1.5 hours is not the end-all - I will post back with details.

I can consistently play 2-3 hours before it crashes each time

2 hours longer and still no crashes. I do have to say that Virt Mem is right at 31.9 used out of 32GBā€¦ so there is an issue with something. it seems no matter how much I give it, it will take right up to itā€¦ I will say that at 24GB it was exceeding and crashing.

Just so you know.

Iā€™m running currently a 32GB swap file. That gives me a 64GB virtual space. (32 RAM + 32 Swap)

So bump it higher. I was running 48GB before the patch. The game does flatten for me at around 36-38GB of total VM space used. (that is for the entire system, game and whatever is running)

So raise it. I have been suggesting 32GB for a swap file for now. And set both min and max to the same value.

will do, Iā€™ll make it 38 before next run - very helpful posts DTMAce.

(still no crashes ) about 3.5 hours, which was not the case prior to driver rollback and virt mem change.
