Raiding Coming to D4?

Saw a ‘leak’ claiming that a D4 expansion is in the works and will be announced at Blizzcon.
Obviously take it with a grain of salt but it does make for fun discussion.

Speaking as long-time WoW player, I can’t really see how raiding would work in D4. However I think it would be fun if they could somehow pull it off with a few differences. I think we can all agree D4 is in a desperate need for an end-game and something to actually do at max level. Right now the end-game is just leveling to 100 and then you’re done.

What are some other things you’d like to see added at max level to do?

Expansion was in the works since launch of the game, developers even said that. We’re expecting it to be announced at Blizzcon.

However I personally don’t think they’ll reveal much other then the new zone and a new class, and that’ll be about it. Oh they’ll go over all of the features they’ve talked about in the live streams, but they won’t give us a timeline for it. I’d love to be proven wrong though.

Until we get the info I’m not holding my breath though.

Whatever else they do, definitely dont add raids (as in, group only content).

As for endgame, I’d say one of the most important parts is there should be nothing in endgame that requires max lvl. All endgame should be doable at lvl 80+

Other than that, just balance what is already there, so it is all viable to do, and offer similar difficulty.
S2 took a big step forward for making all endgame viable. But the difficulty is severely lacking. Tbh, just add sigils to all endgame activities. Relatively “simple” solution that reuses existing design.
Then add more activities over time.
A boss arena could be one idea. As well as campaign replay as an endgame activity (again, sigils, like a Tier 150 campaign playthrough with modifiers).

I don’t understand why players are against raids because it is multiplayer only but are ok with PvP…
I dont mind raids being added, as long as it is not the only thing being added and doesnt become the main focus for the future of the game.
I think it’s good for people who play multiplayer to get some challenges.

want an MMo go play one

this is not an MMO nor should it be one. its a single player game with optional/encouraged social aspects

i do want more endgame activities and bosses but not raids.

There is always so called “leaks” before a Blizzcon. I’m pretty sure the first expansion will be announced and we’ll get some tantalizing details to look forward to. New act and maybe a new class and feature that will “change the game as we know it.”

I highly doubt there will be raids because they aren’t going to spend that much resources on a non-sub game to create competition with themselves. Raids needs to stay in WOW. If we’re talking one person type content where multiplayer is optional then maybe. But I wouldn’t hold my breathe.

We might also get a look at what is coming in season 3, such as leaderboards and how they will work. I’m hoping for a SSF mode like D3 got. I really enjoyed that in season 29.

And of course DI will have something new coming, but I don’t really care what happens with P2W games.

It is equally good for people who play solo to get some challenges.
Just add challenging content for both solo and multiplayer.
And fix the balancing of the content that is already here, so it offers more of a challenge.

New content could definitely be designed similar to WoW raids in the sense of having a coherent dungeon with multiple challenging bosses that require some sense of strategy to beat.
Just without the group aspect that comes with the word ‘raid’.

difference is PVP is optional

if you bring raids in you will have to give people incentives in order to run them (aka better loot or BIS gear) which would only be acquired through raiding especially if they are tough and require coordination.

thus making Raiding needed to be done IF i want the best gear

Maybe the worst thing they could ever do to a Diablo game is add MMORPG style “raiding”. I’d never buy an Action RPG with required coordinated outside of game forced group activities.

Thats just an assumption though…
They could easily lock some cosmetics and season journey goals behind raids and nothing more, just like they do for PvP.

Edit: i absolutely do not expect raids to be challenging at all. If they add raid I dont expect them to be harder than world bosses

A big difference is, PvP is not game content in any meaningful sense.
A boss fight is game content. Locking it behind a group requirement is not similar to it requiring two people for a duel.

Likely yeah. Which would make it even more useless for devs to spend the time making them.

One of the reasons why I stopped playing Immortal was because I always had to wait on other people.

Would be pretty hyped to see expansion announcement or new class, but it feels pretty early so im not sure.

All endgame should start at 100 and 1-100 shouldn’t take more than 5-10 hrs. It isn’t obsolete d2 era anymore. We need fast if not lightning pace gaming and challenges. Nmd needs tier 150 and with modifers that slaughters non optimized builds / noob players.

Because many of us have had too many bad experiences with raids and all the B.S that come with them. PVP is optional and raids never are. At least not in the way they are implemented in MMOs. Raids are always the endgame content for progression and they always require groups, which many of us despise. I play Diablo to get away from games like WOW. I like being able to log on and play what I want when I want. The moment a raid gets added, I lose that because then it’s all about what night works for everyone and making sure I can make it. Not to mention the usually high gear check that is needed even to be allowed to do it. I don’t like being locked out of content I’ve paid for because some jerk raid leader wants everyone to have higher gear score than what is required for the content. F that. The moment that garbage is implemented in D4, I’ll be in Last Epoch or POE2 quicker than you can say BOO.

I highly doubt any of this will happen, but since you asked, that is why many of us don’t want to see raids.

Raiding in WoW is already a joke as mythic plus and vault simply allow you to essentially get end game raid gear without even raiding.
putting anything into D4 that would even look like raiding would be a giant disaster

I like the idea of larger dungeons that require groups, akin to trials more than anything.

However, as far as that idea goes, the fact of the matter is, the ingame multiplayer leaves much to be desired.
Max party size 4- this disabuses the notion of anything larger than a 4 player maximum for ANY content. You can’t even get a guild raid functionality going. So no, raids are definitely off the table.
Time locked raids would be especially bad.

They need to improve on the multiplayer communication and allow for ingame networks to be created. Even though the forum “could” be utilised, even though there are other chat platforms.
