Am i the only one thinking that a queue to login is crazy? And by login i mean simply getting into the game to make a character.
I thought queues usually only started when you press “play” or am i just getting old? I find it weird that you have queues in a single / multiplayer game anyway. Wouldn’t it be optimal to have the choice and say to hell with it and enjoy the game solo, thus skipping any online queues?
Maybe i’m the crazy one around here, but i’d be happy to hear someone elses thoughts on this matter.
Yes, it’s normal for online games. Even games like D3 that are not really online games but require an internet connection to even play.
It would be nice but they require you to be online to play anyway. Many of the files and the game information is hosted on Blizzard’s end. They have a ton of reasons for doing this but I do wish we had an offline mode.
Fair point, i don’t mind that i have to be online to get into the game though, but perhaps i’m not technical enough to understand the difference in between being online and sitting in a queue to get to the main menu even.
@GoauldOfWar
Your sarcastic post is appreciated, thank you.
Once you’ve gotten as far as character creation, you are in the game; you’re performing in-game functions such as creation and customization. For many people that’s actually a pretty big part of the game itself.
Login is just entering your username and password to connect to Battle.net, and there is no queue for that.
I think this is just a case of some mild cognitive conflict about the syntactical differences of “logged in” vs. “in game”. Nothing to be worried about. Alas, as others mentioned, this is the online world in which we live.
The most boring part is I can’t do anything else while in queue… ALT+TAB does not show the Desktop… must try to lauch DIV windowed, but I’d had to close and lost my place in queue.
Nonsense. Dont be naive. Haven’t you played blizzard games before ?
Its just a matter of renting server capacity. When a game is a few months old, a few % of the player base is online at any given time. When they start up the server 50%+ of the sold games are gonna login. To handle that, you need to temporarily rent a whole bunch of server capacity. They don’t do that.
I dont know, maybe its because they have their own hardware instead of rented server capacity so that its not so simple and cheap to just rent a lot of extra capacity for a short time as it would be when you work with rented servers.
