Questions about Etiquette

Hi All! I’ve been playing Diablo since the beginning, but I mostly play alone. My question is, if I am killing demons and someone else comes along and kills some of them or helps with a big one, how does the loot situation work? Is it just one drop to be shared? Or does everyone see ‘their own’ share? I don’t want to rush in and scoop up everyone else’s stuff, but I do want all of ‘my’ loot.

Also, if I open a chest is that loot available to anyone to pick up or am I the only one who sees it?
What about those boxes you get sometimes with herbs in them, can others grab that when I open them?
So I guess, in addition to basic etiquette, I also need info on how the game works for these different situations.

The way they set it up, while you’ll run across other players, your specific… what shall we call it… D4 world is somewhat separated. You may have unlocked things they haven’t, and vice versa. I’m not entirely sure how their reality engine works, but I suspect everyone has their own chest (unless you’re running as a clan, I think).

You each get your own share of loot. No worries about loot stealing or kill stealing as long as you both tag the mob.
